Aadhaar Pay

Buoyed by BHIM App’s initial success, and the incredible growth in its daily transactions, Govt. is planning to launch Aadhaar based digital payment platform: Aadhaar Pay on April 14th.

However, there is a news which will surely upset Aadhaar users: Cricketer MS Dhoni’s Aadhaar details were accidentally leaked on Twitter, by none other than a Govt. agency.

Aadhaar Pay To Launch On April 14th?

If we believe some insider reports, then Govt. of India is planning to launch Aadhaar Pay on April 14th. As of now, 9 banks are already live on Aadhaar Pay, and Govt. is in talks with 16 more banks to make them part of Aadhaar Pay platform before April 14th.

An unnamed official said, “The government is planning to go live with Aadhaar Pay on April 14, the day of the event around Lucky Grahak Yojana and Digi Dhan Vyapar Yojana. As of now, we have nine banks live on Aadhaar Pay and 16 more are in the process of certification,“

While BHIM App has been designed for peer-to-peer transactions, using UPI as the base; Aadhaar Pay has been developed to enable merchants to accept online payments from anyone who has a bank account linked to Aadhaar Card.

The best part about Aadhaar Pay is that the customer need not enter any pin or provide his debit card for the payment: With a single biometric scan, the payment can be made. Even a smartphone is not required from the buyer’s end.

The merchant needs to have a biometric scanning device, and use the Aadhaar Pay app of their bank to use this payment mechanism.

IDFC Bank has already launched their own Aadhaar Pay based app for merchants.

MS Dhoni’s Aadhaar Details Leaked On Twitter

Meanwhile, the security mechanism around Aadhaar details is continuing to be a factor of worry for all.

In a major blunder, Common Services Center Scheme or CSC, which is a Govt. agency part of National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), accidentally leaked cricketer MS Dhoni’s Aadhaar card details on Twitter.

CSC was actually tweeting about MS Dhoni & his family updating their Aadhaar information at a CSC outlet in Ranchi. However, along with the image of Dhoni providing his biometric access to a CSC employee, over-enthusiast social media personal of CSC also uploaded exact Aadhaar details of MS Dhoni.

MS Dhoni’s wife, Sakshi saw this on Twitter and complained to IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad regarding this leak. Minister has assured that action would be taken against this data leak.

But the damage has already been done.

Such callous attitude is certainly not warranted, especially in such times, when hackers are all waiting to grab confidential data for unleashing mayhem.
