In UP Assembly elections 2017, BJP scored a clear mandate by winning 324 seats out of 403; thereby emerging victorious by a resounding margin. Political analysts are trying hard to decipher as to which factor proved to be the alchemist here.

And all speculations lead to only one factor: PM Narendra Modi.

This speculation can be proved by an interesting study conducted by Burson-Marsteller, which states that Narendra Modi is the most followed global leader on Facebook, beating US President Donald Trump and Queen of Jordan.

Burson-Marsteller is World’s leading public relations and communications firm based out of New York, and they operate 139 offices across 98 countries. Their study, titled: “World Leaders on Facebook 2017” says that PM Modi’s official page is world’s most followed public page with 40 million fans, whereas it is also the page with maximum interactions on Facebook, with 169 interactions as of February 1st, 2017.

US President Donald Trump is at #2 position with 19 million fans, thereby becoming World’s 2nd most followed global leader.

Interestingly, PMO India’s official Facebook page is at #3 position with 13 million fans, which means that Indians are the most politically active user base across Facebook.

Queen Rania of Jordan is at #4 position with 10 million fans, followed by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey with 8.9 million fans at #5.

The report was created after analysing more than 590 official Facebook pages of World leaders, and considering 50 variables which were analysed using Burson Tools. Using CrowdTangle, Burson-Marsteller studied past interactions, posts shared and other details to derive conclusions regarding the popularity of global leaders on Facebook.

Facebook Popularity is Equal To More Votes?

Of course, the number of fans on Facebook cannot be directly interpreted as a political reason for winning elections, but certainly it gives a hint of the popularity and charisma. The recent UP State Elections results, in which BJP swept the results, can be a good case study to understand the impact of Facebook popularity and votes within a particular region, anywhere in the world.

With Facebook penetrating deep rural belts, with more and more rural population along with urban citizens, how much impact does Facebook communications has on the voting pattern?
