In a huge blow to the incumbent telecom players who have taken TRAI to TDSAT (Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal) complaining about Jio’s tariff plans, the Attorney General (AG) of India has ruled in favor of Reliance Jio.

The Attorney General of India, Mukul Rohatgi, has told TRAI that Reliance Jio’s tariff plans do not violate any existing regulations or order issued by the regulator. Therefore, TRAI must not intervene into the matter. The next hearing on the matter is scheduled on February 6.

This is in response to the petitions filed by Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular in TDSAT against TRAI allowing Jio to continue with its “predatory” tariff plans.

AG has favored non-intervention of Trai in Reliance Jio’s tariff case,” the sources familiar with the matter said.

Earlier, TRAI had asked Jio to explain why its free data and voice promotional offers must not be treated as predatory and against the norms. Jio “Welcome Offer” and Jio “Happy New Year Offer” might look similar at once glance but they differ in their daily FUP data limit (4 GB Vs. 1 GB). The “Happy New Year Offer” lets the subscribers recharge their number with a speed booster packs after exhausting the data limit, while there was no such provision in the “Welcome Offer”.

This is very good news for Jio subscribers who can now enjoy free services till 31 March 2017. Post that they can pay Rs. 100 and use all Jio services for another 3 months.

Reliance Jio To Launch Its DTH Services Soon

We have been hearing about Jio’s plans to launch its broadband and DTH (Direct To Home) services since a long time now. Jio is already running trails for its high-speed fiber broadband services in select areas, but there has been no information about its upcoming DTH services until now.

Gizmo Times, has gotten hold of the leaked photos of Reliance Jio’s DTH Set-top-box and remote. The website claims that Jio is planning to launch its DTH services very soon having its expected launch in March or April this year.

The set-top-box (STB) would function by connecting to either a dish or fiber. The STB has S/PDIF (Sony Philips Digital Interface Format), an Ethernet port, an HDMI port, and a USB port too. It is round in shape and looks like some portable speaker.

The remote looks basic to us but an interesting highlight is the presence of a mic button indicating support for voice-based commands. We are expecting Jio to launch its DTH services with a promotional offer bundled with free services for a certain period availed by buying the STB.

Jio has the potential to revolutionize the DTH industry in India by offering HD and VoD (Video-on-demand) services at a competitive price, but we will reserve our comments till its commercial launch. Stay tuned!

If the JIO has not entered the network field, Airtel’s domination couldn’t been curtailed. Before JIO arrival AIRTEL increased the tariff rate but reduced the benefit to the customers.
1GB 3G data was charged Rs.197 for a validity of 28 days. Then the same 1 GB was charged 225 and validity reduced to 21 days.
Subsequently it is increased to Rs.255 valid for same 21 days.
Now due to”JIO” AIRTEL is offering 3GB, 4GB for the same tariff. It clearly shows how AIRTEL was cheating the customers till the arrival of Jio.
    HATS OFF TO JIO.
