It has been quite some time since we reported that Reliance Jio Fiber aka JioFiber, also popularly known as FTTH (Fiber to the home), was being offered to some particular housing societies in Mumbai, but now we have concrete information that the country’s most awaited gigabit broadband service would be launched soon.

Jio has recently launched its 4G service with competitive tariff plans but the Mukesh Ambani-led company doesn’t stop there. According to TechPP, Jio is testing its high-speed FTTH (Fiber to the Home) service across select cities in the county including Mumbai and Pune.

Reliance Jio’s 1 Gbps fiber broadband service would be made available across top 100 cities in the country. Note that India ranks 114 globally in terms of internet speed with average speed of just 3.5 Mbps.

The average speed is decided by the most popular broadband service, which is BSNL in India. Recently BSNL announced minimum FUP speed of 1 Mbps on all plans, and is also going to launch a new broadband plan offering 1 Mbps @ Rs. 249/month from 9 September, 2016.

Free & Unlimited For The First 3 Months

Just like Jio 4G, the Jio Fiber internet is being provided under a preview offer to the customers at an unlimited basis. However, the internet would be provided only at those locations where the fiber has been laid.

As per the screenshot shared by a Jio Fiber customer, the company is already providing up to 1 Gbps speed.

Now given that the network is still in testing phase, a download speed of 743 Mbps having 8 ms latency doesn’t sound that bad at all for a supposedly 1 Gbps connection.

It is also revealed that Jio has 4 fiber broadband plans, at least for now. As the Jio Fiber is currently in testing phase you can’t just go and ask for a connection like you can request a Jio 4G SIM. Just wait for some time till someone from Jio offers you this preview plan.

Reliance Jio FTTH Plans

Jio Fiber’s commercial launch is expected by mid-2017. We are hoping that the company would launch its fiber broadband services with very competitive tariff plans just like its 4G service. If that happens then it would give BSNL and other leading ISPs a run for their money and help bring India among the list of top countries having super-fast broadband internet.

Extremely pathetic and like a local cable operator,Jio broadband cable wires- orange colour with Jio printed on them, are dangling from trees at 4-5 feet from ground and electricity poles at the side of road in Noida .

Someone can easily cut the wires and disrupt services.
