In one of the most innovative and pro-employment steps ever taken, Indian Govt. is now offering contractual jobs across 12 major creative and technical disciplines on the official MyGov Portal.

These job offers have been floated with an interesting tagline: ‘Want to work for Government?’

Which Jobs Are Available?

This recent employment activity for contractual workers is specific for 12 creative disciplines, which are:

  1. Editorial Writers
  2. Researchers
  3. Software Developers
  4. Data Scientists
  5. Graphic Designers
  6. Video Editors
  7. Digital Content Script Writers
  8. Advertising Professionals
  9. Senior Management
  10. Academic Experts
  11. Social Media Experts
  12. App Developers

As per the official notification issued on MyGov.in portal, resumes thus submitted would be used to create a database of various experts, which would be used for various tasks at hand. The notification said: “This data bank may be sourced by the government periodically to engage citizen experts in various domains for contractual services in various positions across ministries, departments, organizations, institutions, and specialized entities.”

Selection Criteria?

Selection procedure for every open position has been described in detail on the MyGov portal.

For instance, for the post of Data Scientists, MyGov requires bachelor or masters in economics and/or Ph.d or D.Sc in Mathematics, besides hands on experience in data warehousing and quantitative data analysis.

For the post of social media experts, the notification says: “Expertise in devising and running successful social media profiles in Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Linkedin, Quora, Whatsapp. Running own blog site or crowd sourced opinion or blog sites..”

How To Apply For These Positions?

After visiting MyGov.in portal, job-seekers are required to open this link, which details all the open job positions and their requirements.

Using hashtag of the respective position as the title, users are encouraged to submit their resumes in .pdf format, thereby mentioning the position on the first page itself.

Compensation packages and job responsibilities shall be discussed by an expert panel, after shortlisting the resumes.

Here is the details of all open positions, with description of selection criteria and other requirements.

At the time of writing this post, there were 223 submissions for these open positions under contract; and as of now, none have been announced to be shortlisted.

In 2014, Narendra Modi Govt. had launched MyGov.in platform for creating crowdsourced initiatives which can be easily monitored and accessed by all. The same year, MyGov in collaboration with Google launched PMO App development contest.

Right now, there are various crowdsourced competition going on MyGov portal, which includes: Logo design for Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin; Global Architectural Competition for Indian National War Museum and a discussion on ‘TRAI’s Consultation Paper on Spectrum Usage Charges and Presumptive Adjusted Gross Revenue for Internet Service Providers and Commercial Very Small Aperture Terminal Service Providers’.

As per official records, there have been 3.6 million registrations on MyGov portal, 182.26 lakh submissions for 514 tasks enlisted on the portal and 3.4 million comments on various discussion threads.
