Reliance Jio has today announced that they along with 8 other leading Global Telecom Operators have forged a one of kind alliance that will allow them to tap into market opportunity of one billion customers in more than 80 countries around the globe.

The members of this alliance include BT, Deutsche Telekom, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, Millicom, MTS, Orange, Rogers, TeliaSonera and TIM.

Rainer Deutschmann, Chief Product & Innovation Officer of Reliance Jio Infocom Limited, comments on the alliance “Jio is set to enable each Indian to live a digital life. To this end, we have built the globally largest green-field 4G and fiber network, as well as a suite of digital services that enable entertainment, cloud, payment, and much more. We invite the best partners to work with us to co-create a Digital India.”

The aim of alliance is not only to share their telecom networks, but primarily to partner with each other to bring innovative digital products and services.

The Alliance focuses on exchanging best practices on how to bring partner propositions to the market, on joint efforts in partner scouting and will also exchange knowledge about upcoming trends and services amongst the group.

As of today, the Alliance has established relationships with 30 innovative partner businesses including AirBnB, Celltick, Disconnect, Idoomoo, Magisto, Mojio and Spotify.

The alliance plans to expand further by bringing in additional operators.

Why Reliance Jio is part of this Alliance

From the start, Reliance Jio has projected themselves as a digital lifestyle company, wherein they want to go beyond just giving voice and data services. They want to provide compelling digital content ecosystem to users on top of their network.

The first phase will include offering 4G-LTE in its network, VoLTE and VoWi-Fi. Beyond this they want to hook customers on to their network by providing content and rich app ecosystem.

With this alliance is place, they can tap into partner networks and start offering their innovative services to Jio subscribers. Rather than creating the ecosystem from scratch, the alliance offers them a quick way to build their offerings.

Reliance Jio has already launched their 4G services, however, it is currently open only to 1 Lakh+ Reliance employees. They are expected to do first phase of their commercial launch in March-April 2017. They also recently announced launch of LYF devices that are closely integrated with their own Jio network.
