Having pushed the deadline by a month, Reliance has promised to deliver ultra cheap 4G services in India starting December. December is almost here and according to a tipster, Reliance will be announcing Reliance Jio soon across the country, delivering as per the promised timelines. After all, the country has been looking forward to the launch of 4G services since the beginning of the year and what is more fulfilling than cheap and super fast internet.

According to Zauba, an import data tracker website, nearly 5 lakh sim cards have been imported by Reliance in the last month, which confirms the impending launch of the 4G services in the country. The sim cards have been imported from China to Delhi and carry a per unit price of Rs 19. Majority of the units were imported in October itself, which proves that Reliance might have been conducting some tests before the actual launch.

Reliance has been working on the launch aggressively over the last six months and hopes to capture the market currently untapped by other players like Airtel and Vodafone. Analysts are viewing this as a competitor to Airtel in terms of market coverage and low costs. Although Reliance doesn’t feature in the most preferred telecom list, we are hoping some drastic improvements with this launch.

Airtel has already launched 4G services in India across 296 towns and has a healthy lead in the market. Vodafone, Aircel,  and Idea are following suit and plan to launch their 4G LTE services by December as well. This is the perfect time for a telecom major to prove its worth and gain more subscribers.

Interestingly we have recently seen the launch of cheap 4G supporting phones from handset makers like Samsung, Motorola and Microsoft etc which are bundling Airtel 4G sim cards with them. Reliance Jio also plans to expand its portfolio by offering LTE hotsports (Mi-Fi) bundled with the sim card to allow non-4G smartphones to enjoy the speeds of a 4G enabled one. Only a little time is left for Reliance Jio to be unveiled for the customers and we’re hoping to see some really good deals to start the new year.

Are you serious with the headline? 5 lac sims could at best be for beta testing for all circles put together employees. For consumers they have a target of 10 million in first 100 days and 100 million in 1 year. 5 lac units is peanuts… that too spread over 1 month is more scary.. had it been import data of a week or so we could think the figure reaching substantial figure in coming 20 days.. the move is positive but surely doesnt indicate the launch on track… there is no movement on ground … no dealership enquiries in our city (nagpur) no news at existing Rcom stores (if those are going to be merged) … so fingers crossed
