Airtel said, “With this, Airtel has become the preferred partner to provide residents of the Millennium City an opportunity to connect to world-class internet experiences on the move,”

The tariff plan has not been announced yet, but as per the press release, it would be ‘nominal amount’. It seems Airtel will roll out special data packs for WiFi users, and there can also be a possibility of merging existing Airtel users with this WiFi plan. More details are awaited.

Mussoorie To Have Free WiFi

One of the most popular and preferred hill stations for North Indians: Mussoorie may become the first hill station in North India to have a free WiFi service. Especially designed for tourists, this WiFi service will be free for first 30 minutes, after which users will need to pay a nominal amount to continue using the service.

Although it is not yet clear, as to which telecom provider will have the contract, but it is clear that the local authorities are considering a private player, ignoring state run BSNL which is the most widely used Telecom Company in the area.

In January this year, Uttrakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) had invited bids for “Establishment and Maintenance, of Wireless Meshed Wi-Fi Zone at Three

Places in Uttarakhand”, which included Mussoorie, Nainital and Ranikhet. The last date for filing the tender was March 13.

Later, MLA from Mussoorie, Ganesh Joshi met IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, and demanded fast implementation of WiFi service in Mussoorie as it can provide a major tourist attraction.

As per reports, WiFi connectivity would be provided in the popular Mall Road area in Mussoorie to start with, wherein all tourists can log onto the Internet, and check out major tourist destinations nearby as well as carry on their regular web-based activities.

In Nainital area, WiFi would start between the scenic route of Malli Taal to Talli Taal, which are two of the biggest lakes in the area.

In Ranikhet region, WiFi would be established in Mall Road.

We have written to the Uttrakhand Tourism Development Board for more details regarding the launch of WiFi service in Mussoorie, and will update as soon as we get more information.
