Samsung Galaxy S6

At a launch event in Delhi, Samsung launched their next flagship phones – The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Boasting impressive features, these high end phones are sure to appeal to Samsung fans, as long as they are ok with now-customary over-the-top pricing.

Both of these devices stand right up there when it comes to looks, especially the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge with curved display. Lets us look at what is under the hood.

Specifications

Both the siblings have identical specifications – a 5.1-inch quad HD super AMOLED display that has amazing 577 ppi pixel density. The S6 definitely is far ahead of others when it comes to display. The phones are powered by 64-bit Octacore processor (2.1 GHz Quad,, 1.5 GHz quad) coupled with 3GB DD4 RAM. Both the phones are available in 32GB/64GB and 128 GB variants.

Samsung claims that the phone is encased in a new and strong aluminum frame which is adopted from aircraft, Yatch and mountain bike technology.

Pricing

In our view, the prices for both these phones are quite absurd. The lowest model, the 16GB Galaxy S6 puts you back by Rs. 49,900 and on the other hand the top-end 128GB Galaxy S6 edge will burn your pocket at Rs. 70,900. This is the most expensive smartphone launched by Samsung till date.

The prices for all the models are – Samsung Galaxy S6 is priced at INR 49,900 (32GB), INR 55,900 (64GB) and INR 61,900 (128GB), while Galaxy S6 edge is available at a price of INR 58,900 (32GB), INR 64,900 (64GB) and INR 70,900 (128GB).

With other smartphone manufacturers looking at bringing prices of their phones down, Samsung is moving the other way. They probably seem to inspired by Apple a lot and want to beat iPhone at pricing!

Given the prices of these phones, one thing is sure – It will be lapped up with a very narrow segment of people – Those who are Samsung fans and have lot of money in their pockets.!
