RCom Brings Unlimited Mobile Internet At Rs.999 /month. [Tariff Wars]

22

Within 24 hours of Airtel’s announcement of offering 4G internet at the rates of 3G, Reliance has offered unlimited mobile Internet for only Rs 999 per month with no download limit.

This disruptive offer, has signaled another round of data tariff war within the Indian telecom industry.

This new data plan from Reliance would be initially rolled out in Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune effective November 27, 2014. Other major cities such as Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata will also be covered under this plan very soon. Customer of Reliance CDMA network can opt for this plan. Previously the Reliance CDMA offered a download speed of 3.1 mbps, however, with it upgraded pro 3 network, customers can get speeds of upto 14.7 mbps!

Reliance Mobile

Gurdeep Singh, chief executive (consumer business) at Reliance Communication has categorically stated that this is not a promotional, attention grabbing plan with terms and conditions in between. The user who has opted for this unlimited mobile internet plan can download “100 GBs for Rs 999 without fear of a bill shock at the end of the month”.

He said that this plan “was not a promotional offer in disguise to grab data customers in key markets. We are here for the long haul and plan to extend this offer nationally in all key markets.”

Singh further said that this new attractive plan was mainly targeted for those, who are “dissatisfied with their current data speeds or the quality of indoor coverage.”

Specialists are speculating that Reliance is ramping up it’s customer’s base ahead of the much-acclaimed 4G Internet launch next year. Initially, they are targeting all the heavy mobile Internet users, and there can’t be any better bait than offering unlimited internet for Rs 999.

Yesterday, Airtel had stirred the market with it’s offer of 10 GB 4G Internet plan for Rs 999, which is 33% cheaper than 10 GB 3G Internet plan which is offered for Rs 1499. Reliance’s counter attack within 24 hours has converted this buzz into a hailstorm.

Besides Airtel, this new CDMA plan from Reliance is also directly competing against Sistema Shyam Teleservices’ Rs 999 data plan, in which users can get 40GB and 20GB limits for postpaid and prepaid customers respectively.

The market is now closely watching the moves of other major mobile Internet players such as Vodafone India, Idea Cellular and Sistema Shyam who are expected to announce some major plans, which can match Reliance’s and Airtel’s sizzling offers.

Is It Really Possible?

Telecom experts have stated that offering unlimited data plan for Rs 999 is technically impossible, with the existing infrastructure. As several customers will try to access the same bandwidth at the same peak time, the network and servers will choke, creating unpleasant experiences for all the customers.

A top telecom expert, on conditions of anonymity, told ET: “Since a data pipe’s capacity is finite, a large group of customers collectively opting for such an unlimited offer are bound to experience a serious loss of speed at some point, especially since DoT allows operators to downgrade data download speeds as part of its fair usage and trade policy once a customer is seen to be abusing a data plan,”

Performance of Reliance’s Internet (on mobile or data card) is infamous for it’s slow speed during peak hours (7 PM to 10 PM) in various circles. It would be really interesting to observe how Reliance maintains high speed, along with offering 100s of GBs of download for thousands of customers at a flat price.

We will keep you posted.

    Dear All,

Please do not buy any products or plans/data related Reliance. In case if you purchase despite advice of consumers those already purchased (including me), then you may suffer inconvenience and lose you valuable money & time. Reliance is established only for cheating the consumers. They sell products with the intention of fraud i.e. Displaying on the box of TV 64 inch and they do not allow to open the box & see the TV size. If you purchase that TV in keeping faith and after opening the box, you will be shocked. You see 24 inch TV instead of 64 inch. If you try to return back the TV to the seller, they will not accept it. In my earlier comments I mentioned in detail, how reliance cheated me by selling Data Card/Device mentioned in the Box (and also given in advertisement) 14.7 MBPS (Mega Byte Per Second (1 Byte = 1024 Bits & 1 KB (Kilobytes) = 1024 Bytes & 1 MB (Megabyte) = 1024 KB (Kilobytes)) and when I asked the Sales Representative to show demonstration (to check downloading speed), he convinced that “Sir, first you have to put the devise to you Laptop and install the software and after installing you have to send request to activate the device. It takes more than 2 hours to activation. Hence, I can not show demonstration. But it clearly mentioned in box regarding downloading speed. It has highest downloading speed 14 MBPS”. So I bought that device and suffered loss.
Please I am once again request you all to please do not purchase any products which related to Reliance.

    Regards

14.7mbps is total bandwidth for their carrier, It is shared medium for all reliance users. so obviously we will get 0.5mbps to 2.5 bps maximum

      1. ashok says

Then why Reliance sell its Data Device saying that its downloading speed is 14.7 MBPS if its downloading speed below 2 MBPS. Why giving wrong/misleading advertisement ? I have checked downloading speed of other Companies i.e. MTS, MTS offer 9.8 MBPS speed, but it gives more than 6 MBPS speed. If reliance device gives minimum 8 MBPS speed no one complaints.

I have purchased Reliance wi-pod which have 14.7 Mbps downloading speed. I know Mb means megabits not megabytes, but 14.7 megabits = 1.83 megabytes. It is 4g speed of Reliance and I agree that it is under development. But my connection speed is shown as 3.1 Mbps which is equal to 396 Kilobytes but it only give 50 to 60 KBps speed to me. Sometimes it hit 100 KBps and rarely 150 KBps and if we connect 2 or 3 devices, then it give the worse speed of 20 to 30 KBps. Why it don’t give speed. 250 to 300 KBps is ok for me in 3.1 Mbps connection speed but I have to say that even this speed is miles away from the speed it give me. I don’t understand why

    Hi

I have purchased Reliance Pro3 Dongler on 23.03.2015 at Reliance Tele Communication, Mangalore (Opp. Karnataka Bank). At time of purchase, the sales personnel convinced me that the maximum downloading speed of this dongler 14.7 MBPS (Mega Bytes Per Second) and uploading speed 5.1 MBPS and same is also mentioned on product box. So I decided to purchase and requested him (sales representative) to install in your computer to verify/demo. But he denied saying that “Activation will took 2 hours time and if any problem call to me”. So I purchased dongler for Rs.1,600 and also paid Rs.244 for startup. Then I installed (as per instruction given by the sales representative) to my laptop (i7) and activated without any problem. After connecting the internet, it was found that the downloading speed is not as per specification (14.7 MBPS). Instead of 14.7 MBPS, the downloading speed shows between 700KBPS (Kilo Bytes Per Second) to 2200KBPS. There is no problem in signal strength and signal strength show full. That means maximum downloading speed is 1.5 MBPS and not 14.7 MBPS. Another thing is while connecting the internet, it shows the Rate (below in Connection/disconnection menu) 3.1 mbps (instead of 14.7 mbps) (you can not change it as 14.7 MBPS), is it the maximum speed ? If so why Reliance Telecommunication mentioning specification as 14.7 MBPS and why giving the false statements/advertisement (to cheat customers). What is meaning of these ? I contacted the sales representatives and he told me that call Reliance Customer Care. After several calls (some time busy tone and some time engage tone), finally they received and briefed the lady (every time new representative receives calls) and listened and replied that call after 2 hours later. I called after 2-3 hours later, but they are not responding suitably (some time busy and some time engage tone). Finally l one representatative (customer care) advised me that change Mode “Hybrid” to “Pro3”, so I changed the mode Hybrid to Pro3, but there is no difference in speed and problem remained the same. I again contacted the customer care representative. This time lady received the call and asked the model number and I told that model number is ZTE AC2791. The representatative/lady replied that this model is varies/different, please contact the Reliance Center/Branch where you purchased the Dongler. I have made several call to his mobile, but he is not responding/not receiving the call. This totally fraud and cheating customers by giving the information(advertising) of product speed 14.7 Mbps and selling the product of below 2 Mbps speed.

Dude, you are confusing Mbps with MBps .
      Mbps–mega bits per second
      MBps–mega bytes per second
14.7mbps== 1.83 Mbps I.e. the speed you’re already getting via the dongle which roughly counts to 1880 KBps

      1. ashok says

        Dear,

In computer language MB means Mega Bytes not Mega Bits and it will not use the word “Mega Bits”. 1 Byte = 1024 Bits, 1 MB (Megabyte) = 1024 KB (Kilobytes), 1 GB (Gigabytes) = 1024 MB and 1TB = 1024 GB, ….). It clearly mentioned in the box of device is “14.7 MBPS (Mega byte Per Second”.

    2. midhun says

Its megabits per second not megabytes.. So you are a lucky guy that gets the correct speed and even more in your circle..
      NB: 1 BYTE = 8 BITS

    3. sreedhar says

I agree with you sir. same way they cheated me also. Now internet is very slow

It is really pathetic to see the internet speeds of India.Ookla net index (Global broadband) states Singapore is at 110 Mbps, whereas India at 6 Mbps. The service providers cheat there also by dishonouring their promises. Reliance Pro-3 wifi dongle is marketed claiming to provide a speed of 14.7 Mbps and actually not providing even 1 Mbps.?

    Reliance Pro-3 dongle
Relince launched their much advertised PRO-3 DONGLE last week in Cochin.

A DEMO was arranged at my home in Tripunithura, which is only 4 kms from Cochin city.In the demo, it has given only 1mbps speed instead of the much boasted 14.7mbps.

Today one lady from Reliace called me and she said she is doing the follow up. Her question is why I am bothered about speed, when I am able to watch YOU TUBE by using their PRO-3.

I am using Asianet broadband, Idea 3G as well as Reliance Netconnect 3 at my home. The comparative test results (Ookla) are:

Service Provider Type Ping(ms) Down load (mbps) Up load (mbps) Claimed down sp (mbps)

    Asianet Broadband 11 0.74 0.42 2.5

    Idea 3G 123 2.03 1.71 3.1

    Reliance Netconnect3 192 0.76 0.31 3.1

    Reliance Pro-3 90 0.99 0.44 14.7

The reader can infer how Reliance is taking you for a ride.(?)
