Flush with venture capital and high on hopes of attracting hoards of online shoppers this festive season, all major ecommerce portals are offering medium to heavy discounts on almost all the products. Especially in focus are electronics and gift items, which are the most sought after products during festivals.

As per study by CounterPoint Research, ecommerce accounts for 10% of all mobile phones sold during festivals, and this season, this may increase to 15%. Insiders are telling that Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal will collectively spend Rs 200 crore for promoting and marketing their offers this Dussera-Diwali season for leveraging maximum attention from discount hungry consumers.

Flipkart – The BIG Billion Day

Yesterday’s leading newspapers carried Flipkart’s full page advertisement, announcing the Big Billion Day sale on October 6th. Although the exact specifics of the sale was not mentioned, but yes, it has created quite a stir among shoppers. Flipkart has described it as India’s “biggest sale day” ever as flash sales and hourly lucky draws will be held throughout the day.

There is an interesting story behind October 6th as their chosen date. 610 was the flat number from where the Bansals started their humble journey; and the Big Billion Day has been termed as they want a billion Indians to unite and shop from their portal. Around 10,000 people have been specially assigned to deliver the products as fast as possible, as the company is expecting an avalanche of orders.

Not to be left behind in this amazing season of shopping, Amazon has taken help of the successful Mars mission to promote their special offers. Their sales bonanza would start earlier: October 4th and end of October 6th, when Flipkart’s sale day starts.

Intelligent planning, no doubt. They have termed this special discount program as ‘Mission to Mars’, wherein several products such as movies, shoes etc would be available at 50% flat discount and branded watches would be available at 40% discount between this weekend.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos who was recently in Bangalore did his best to promote his company by showcasing a check of $2 billion on top of a truck. Insiders are claiming that Amazon has been planning for this festive season since last 6 months. And the results are paying off. After intense advertisement and promotion of it’s discounts since last one week, Amazon India has witnessed an increase of 250 % in average orders in a day. This is the second week of their promotion.

Snapdeal, which has crossed $1 billion of sales this fiscal year, and witnessing 30% increase in orders, has planned for some big discount offers this festive season. As per insiders, Snapdeal is targeting two themes this Diwali: deep discounts across product categories and exclusive launches to attract more shoppers.

For instance, they have started taking pre-bookings for the new look Mahindra Scorpio, which is only available on Snapdeal.

Additionally, they have booked 2000 ad-spots per day across different TV channels during this weekend and till Diwali, besides roping in more than 25 celebrities including Harsha Bhogle and Mandira Bedi to promote their offers. An unnamed source has revealed that they have spent Rs 20 crore to become the presenting partner of the hit TV show Big Boss as well.

    As per my think Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal all are trusted site for online purchase so i purchase from any of the site they offer best discount on product.
