Flipkart is getting bigger, not only in terms of the amount of funding they are raising, but also in terms of number of new categories they are adding to their popular platform. If you visit Flipkart site, you will find a big banner welcoming you saying “Buy Sexual Wellness Products Online”.

Flipkart Sexual Wellness Category

Flipkart is now venturing into off-beat categories to spread their ever expanding wings. Last week they launched e-learning category, and this week they announced “Sexual Wellness” category that most large online retail site don’t venture into.

This category has been a taboo in India for a very long time, but no more. If you are not aware, over two million Google searches are made every month for adult sexual products. To cater to this demand number of online platforms have come up who offer these products. In past 12-18 months startups like Shykart, IMBesharam, That’s Personal and few others have cropped up to fulfill the sexual wellness demand of Indians.

Now, with Flipkart too coming into this category, it will be quite interesting to see how these new startups cope up with Flipkart’s entry into this niche space.

Flipkart Offering

Flipkart currently has five sub-categories under sexual wellness that includes Condoms, Lubricants, Pleasure devices, Sexual kits and pleasure enhancement products from 22 different brands that include Durex, Manforce, Moods, Skore, Apollo Pharmacy and others. Close to 450 different products are available with Flipkart under this category.

The products under this category need to be handled differently (discreetly) than regular products. Flipkart promises 100 percent discreet packaging, billing and shipping on all sexual wellness products, so buyers don’t have to worry about anyone else knowing about it!

Sexual Wellness Market Size

According to the Flipkart spokesperson, sexual wellness is currently a Rs. 1000 crore category in itself and is growing in double digits. The industry is expected to grow to Rs. 2450 crore by 2016 and Rs. 8700 crore by 2020.

With Flipkart’s entry, this vertical is sure to see accelerated growth in India in coming months and years.
