If you are a bike enthusiast, this news is going to be music to your ears – Terra Motors Corporation, the No.1 manufacture of electric two and three wheelers in Japan, has today announced their presence in India by introducing Kiwami – India’s first ever 1000cc electric superbike in India.

The eco-friendly super bike, Kiwami, which in Japanese means “Ultimate” produces 10kw max motor capacity that can offer fantastic high speeds of upto 160 km per hour.

While this electric super bike was launched today, Terra Motors is soon planning to introduce series of executive e-scooters, targeting premium Indian consumers who expect a stylish and sophisticated high end product. These bikes and a three wheelers option will be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo 2014.

Kiwami electric super bike gets charged fully in 6 hours and can run 200 kilometers on a single charge. This makes Kiwami the highest running distance (on a single charge) by any electric motor bike.

Commenting on the foray of the company in India, Mr. Toru Tokushige, CEO and Founder of Terra Motors said, “India is the second largest producer of two wheelers in the world. Hence it is an important market in our strategic growth plan and we intend to invest Rs. 300 million in the Indian market next fiscal year. With this mission, Terra Motors is set to deliver electric vehicle (EV) of high quality and services in the tradition of what consumers in India come to appreciate and expect from the Japanese industry.”

Though the specifications and design of this vehicle is great, it does have a pretty steep price tag. Buying a Kiwami will put you down by about Rs. 18 Lakh approximately!

Currently the electric motorcycle market in India is nearly zero with no real players. With Terra Motors coming into fray, it may kick start the electric two wheeler revolution in India. At the same time electric vehicles come at premium prices, and given that India is a very price sensitive market, we will have to wait and watch how this market flourishes.

Electric bikes and cars are the future, there are make and models in the world currently, which can run 200kms per hour, light weight , and currently used american police department also like zero company bikes. . If the bike is less than 2 Lakh then it would be a big proposition in india.
