Vodafone India Launches AppStar Contest For App Developers

Vodafone India has launched an annual developer contest – Vodafone AppStar – that will enable a Indian mobile app developers to showcase their talent to a larger global audience. With this contest, Vodafone becomes the first telecom operator to come up with an initiative for app developers.

The contest will be held at two levels, India and international and for India specific contest there will be three main categories under which the app developers can participate:

  1. Best Mobile Game
  2. Best Utility App
  3. Best Local language app

The appStar contest is open for all developers from India and contest’s aim is to encourage development of apps that will work in local conditions (local languages, lower end phones etc). The apps entering the contest can be developed on any OS – Blackberry, Android, iOS, Java or Windows phones.

To participate in the contest, developers will need to submit their idea on the appStar contest website. The winner for this category will be decided based on the number of votes that the particular idea will generate.

AppStar Contest Prizes

AppStar contest will have 3 winners from each of the 3 categories and the top 2 apps across all categories will contest will go to international AppStar contest that will be held in Kenya.

The winners in each of the 3 categories will receive Rs. 50,000 each, the runners-up will get Rs. 30,000 and third placed app will receive Rs. 20,000.

For international contest, the top app developer will be awarded USD 12000, followed by USD 6000 and USD 4000.
