Startup Watch: DayHalt.com Aims To Disrupt Hotel Industry in India

5

Last time when I went to Shirdi to seek Sai Baba’s blessings, I was ripped off by the hotel providers. It was a single day trip from Mumbai and I had no plans to book a room for 24 hours. I only wanted a room for day use and return back in the evening. But none of the hotels provided me that service. Everywhere, it was the same rule: You need to book a room for day and night.

Dayhalt.com, which is India’s first dayuse hotel provider, wants to change this concept, forever.

In fact, if we believe founder Manish Golchha’s vision, then it can seriously disrupt the hotel industry in India. A very powerful idea incubated with passion and a mission.

In his own words, “Dayhalt.com is an online portal to book rooms for few hours during the daytime at discounted rates. We are India’s first startup providing dayuse hotels. We are disrupting hotel booking system by providing rooms as per customer’s requirement and budget.”

What exactly is Dayhalt.com?

Using Dayhalt, you can search and book hotels which provide rooms only for dayuse. If you are an executive who visits a particular city for a meeting and wish to return back in the evening, then it’s a jackpot for you.

If you are visiting a religious place like Shirdi and wish to book a room for freshening up and changing clothes, then Dayhalt is the best option for you. In case you want to hold a meeting at a luxurious hotel suite, then why to book the place for 24 hours? Use Dayhalt and book the rooms as per your convenience.

How does it work?

Dayhalt has tied-up with some major hotel providers in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Shirdi where dayuse rooms are available. As per founder Manish, talks are on with other hotel providers in rest of India, and the service would be soon pan-India level.

You start by selecting the city and the date for which you need the dayuse hotel.

It will show you all the options which are available in that city for that particular date, which you can refine as per your specific needs and requirements such as Internet/WiFi ; Swimming Pool, Business Facilities, Recreation, Spa, gym etc.

The Challenges

Dayhalt.com was launched at The Rodinhoods Open House at NSE, Mumbai on September 14th, 2013, and I was fortunate enough to attend that. In that presentation, Manish shared some of the challenges which this startup is facing.

One of these is the public opinion in India about day use hotels – which is romance and sex. When Manish was doing his market research, and having talks with hotel providers, he realized that many managers and owners of hotels only associate day use with couples wanting a private space for their romantic endeavors. But this is far from true.

There are several executives, business travelers and religious pilgrims (like me!) who wish to use day use hotels for short durations. This is a conceptual and psychological perception which will take time to change among hotel providers. And Dayhalt.com is doing everything possible to overcome that.

The Future

Dayuse hotels are very popular in Western world and major Asian tourist spots like Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia; but was absent in India till now.

Fortunately for us, Dayhalt.com has bridged this gap and launched a very useful service. They are in talks with other hotel providers in all major cities across India and their vision is to have a pan India presence.

We wish Dayhalt.com super success in their venture.
