Galaxy Note 8.0 – Is Samsung creating dual flagship brands in Tablet space as well?

0

Galaxy Note series is a successful series no doubt. Infact, Samsung created yet another flagship brand with note alongside Samsung’s own Galaxy. The first Note was a gamble – It made two things quite successful which had actually failed completely in the past.

  1. Stylus.
  2. 5” form factor.

The market itself was skeptical of the phablet as Dell had proven its failure in a grand way by its Dell Streak. Of course, there is a difference between Samsung and Dell but that is obvious only looking back. The Note thus was bred in an environment of uncertainty and doubt. And it came out victorious. People loved the 5” estate given to them. People loved the S-Pen that could be used to scribble down anything under the sun. Its handwriting recognition skills were exemplary and have improved ever since.

Samsung’s confidence in its S-Pen was visible with the Note series expanding to tablets as well. Galaxy Note 10.1 was born. Last year, Note II was launched with an even bigger screen of 5.5”. With a quad-core in its innards and unique features like multi window, it is a big hit.

Samsung’s Galaxy series is the reason behind its Android dominance. Note has been a perfect companion to the more regular phones – Galaxy S series. For example, when Galaxy S2 was accompanied with Note and S3 with Note 2. This gives Samsung two flagships without eating each other’s market.

Now, if the rumours are true, Samsung is set to release Galaxy Note 8.0, an 8 inch tablet. It can be called a cross between Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy 10.1. Here are the specifications of Galaxy Note 8.0 as reported by a few websites.

Samsung’s launch of Galaxy Note 8.0 might be a move to give consistency, but I still am skeptical about whom does it actually caters to. A person who is buying a Note 2 is buying a phone. Yes, it is a phablet but the idea is to buy a phone with extra-large screen.

A person buying a Note 10.1 is clear in buying a tablet. Now, because 7” tablets are a hit we might say that it is a wise idea to put a Note in between the two. The problem is; does it cater to the 7” tablet people then. Is Samsung creating a product to fight its own tablet? Yet, it is going to launch a 7” tablet in future as well.

This just leaves me with doubts as to what does Samsung has in mind for this Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet.

Will it be sold at a price equal to the 10.1” regular tablet or will the 7” tablet be reduced in price? Is Samsung trying to create a similar dual-flagship-dominance in tablets as it has done in phones?
