India says NO to Dot XXX domains!

11

“Indian Culture says NO to porn sites” according to senior official at ministry of IT; however cyber laws were never strong enough to restrict porn from Indian users.

It’s unfair to even try restrict people from porn; no matter what the legalities say – it is very much a part of Indian men and women surfing time online.

Dot XXX Domain

Last week, ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers)approved .xxx suffix to pornography websites. This will help segregate the pornography websites from others because of the new nomenclature.

India along with a few other countries opposes the new way of segregation and grant of the domain in first place as it is against the Indian IT laws. Isn’t the India cyber and IT laws making a mockery of itself which allows .com and .in domains but .xxx is banned.

Even cities allow red-light areas and moreover .xxx domains will make it easier to cordon off access to such sites easily. According to Indian Penal Code, distribution of porn content is illegal but watching such content is permitted. How stupid is that !

Under section 67 of IT act whoever publishes, distributes porn content in any form of find involved may be imprisoned for 5 years or penalized with 1 lakh of rupees.

I believe we should allow .xxx domains to porn sites in India simply because I don’t find any reason as why to oppose it on some stupid grounds. We can atleast be organized just as we tried to do with .gov, .edu, .org etc domains.

Ban on porn websites shall be exercised in light of peace and harmony of the society. Government has to take adequate steps in this regard, also suitable international regulation is also necessary in this regard.

I think it makes great sense that India wants to block porn sites, no matter that many people like (or rather, are obsessed with) them. Incidents of rape are increasing at an alarming rate in India (and elsewhere), and I have no doubt that this is one of the reasons. Men get excited when looking at porn, right? Well, if they don’t have a legitimate outlet, what do they do? Think about it. It’s not a viable substitute for real sex with a partner any more than Facebook is a substitute for personal relationships. As the male/female birth ratio becomes ever more skewed, men’s frustration levels are inevitably rising as the difficulty of finding a wife or otherwise getting a partner increases.

The introduction of “xxx” will have no effect on Adult Dotcom websites: they will remain unchanged. There is a possibility that some of the Adult websites may get duplicated as “xxx” (so perhaps people will get to see the same thing twice).

However, what has changed is the ability for Internet users to create almost any Domain Name and TLD they like. Sites such as Dashworlds.com provide brand new Dashcom (not Dotcom) domain names. Dashcoms are addresses in format “business-com”, “india-fashion”, “social-network” and of course any “xxx” extension you might desire. Totally outside the realm and control of ICANN, Internet users can create any domain in any language, instantly and at no cost.

With users and members in over 90 countries worldwide, resolution is via an APP; although new ISP Link-Ins are available to make this unnecessary (ISP Link-Ins that are also available to ICANN).

Having just one Internet floating in infinite cyberspace is like saying you can go anywhere in the India as long as stick to Route Highway 243. So now, just as in India (and everywhere else in the world) the Internet has more than one option.
