India pegged to be the largest Economy in world by 2050 

Citibank has given some interesting estimates on how the Economies will grow in next 4 decades. According to the report, India will overtake Japan by 2015 to emerge 3rd largest Economy. It will surpass U.S Economy in 2040 to become second largest and then go beyond China in 2050 to become World’s largest Economy.

The estimates are based on purchasing power parity (PPP), an economic growth indicator that takes into account the purchasing power of each country’s currency, instead of the prevailing exchange rate conversion [source]

3G service Launch

Aircel, which has 3G licences in 13 circles, has launched 3g services today starting with Chennai. It will spread it services across all Indian cities in coming weeks. [source]
Reliance Communications, India’s leading telecom service provider, today launched 3G services in Kashmir. Reliance 3G services are already active in places like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Punjab, Jammu and Rajasthan.[source]
Vodafone plans to launch its 3G service by end of March 2011 and the roll-out will be on city-wise basis and not pan-India or state-wise. [source]

Proposal for Merger of BSNL & MTNL (yet again)

After numerous failed attempts, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has yet again revived the proposal for the merger of state-run telecom firms Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) to synergise their business operations across the country. [source]
