FIFA-World-Cup-2010-3D

For the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup, the action on the field at this year’s tournament will be broadcast using the next-generation 3D technology.  FIFA on 3 Dec 2009 had announced that it had signed a media rights agreement with Sony.

As many as 25 matches will be shown in 3D with Sony’s 3D professional cameras, which will provide coverage of the action that is with an unprecedented depth, vividness and excitement to people around the world.

Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman, CEO and President of Sony Corporation said,

“3D viewers around the world will feel as though they are inside the stadiums in South Africa, watching the games in person,”

ESPN, the leading provider of satellite TV sports entertainment will unveil the first 3-D network of the industry. ESPN3D will start airing on 11th June,  the first match of the World Cup, featuring South Africa V/S Mexico.

British broadcasting company Sky has already beaten ESPN with broadcasting 3D in April. French Open Tennis was already shown in 3D in many countries across Europe.

For Indian Viewers though there is still no 3D broadcasting yet. But we might be able to see it in the theaters.

UFO Moviez, the company that brought the closing four matches of the Indian Premier League 3  earlier this year in 3D to cinema screens, has announced that it will 3D-enable around 1,000 multiplex screens from among the 1,989 theatre screens that it has digitized already, in the next year and a half.

It will also additionally digitize 1,000 theatre screens. Lets hope they will be able to show us the FIFA World cup in 3D this year.

So 3D or not.. Gear up for this mega event starting in 2 days !

    Woww!!
Now we are reaching the next level of TV watching. I think next gen will look at the present plasma / LCD TVs just like we treated B&W TVs.

I hope with the change of generation, the Indian brain will evolve. Otherwise they will also end up watching “Chanch bhi kabhi Dhai tha” in 3D. I hope people make good stuff material for TV watchers bifitting 3D technology.

On my part I would love to watch cooking shows in 3D view. In fact I prefer 4D with smells coming from TV while cooking is going on.

Special comment : For porn 3D is enough :-) Guys dont lynch me. Just having fun thats all.
