Special Sunday: Google UFO unexplained phenomenon Doodle

4

I am sure you must have already seen or read about this, but it is quite interesting how Google’s Doodles have been a rage and as soon as it appears, the whole Internet goes wild over it.

This time though they have take the doodling a notch further :) Following doodle was seen throughout Saturday on Google Home Page.

This Google doodle is showing that an UFO is abducting the 3rd letter “O” from Google. When a user clicked on it, it would take him to the search term "unexplained phenomenon". Undoubtedly, this was one of the most searched word on Google on Saturday.

Twitter-Google

Adding to the drama was a tweet from Google which read

1.12.12 25.15.21.18 15 1.18.5 2.5.12.15.14.7 20.15 21.19 http://twitpic.com/giyxf

Basically, it is the numerical coded message for “all your O are belong to us", an echo of a famous internet meme from 2000.

The story does not end there – on Saturday evening Google released the following statement:

"We consider the second ‘o’ critical to user recognition of our brand and pronunciation of our name. We are actively looking into the mysterious tweet that has appeared on the Google twitter stream and the disappearance of the “o” on the Google homepage. We hope to have an update in the coming weeks.”

You confused?

Yes, I was too until I read here that google “unexplained Phenomenon” doodle was  in honour of Zero Wing, a 1980s Japanese video game.

But what a buzz it created, you can vouch on google on creating this kind of buzz. Doodles are usually used to mark holidays, famous scientists or thinkers, or anniversaries etc.

The Speculators went wild on Theories with some saying it is a sign that Earth had made contact with aliens. Others suggested it was merely a publicity stunt for new sci-fi film District 9, and another said it was the anniversary of the Voyager I spacecraft. (source)

The truth, however, was that it was marking the 20th anniversary of Japanese video game Zero Wing

What ever said and done, Google is just far ahead of its competition, be it innovation, be it branding or be it generating buzz .

It’s good Google has their “Doodle”. It’s something that make users interested while it’s a bit entertaining, too.
