Top 50 Web1.0 Web-Sites of India

28

We are moving into Web2.0 world. However, the list compiled below are the sites that till now are / were the most accessed sites on the net in India. They did not have social networking built into them, neither were they viral. They did not have shiny interfaces nor were they very user friendly. Many top Web1.0 sites have only adopted RSS very recently.

But now these sites are falling behind. If you browse the list, you will see very few of these sites are adopting Web2.0 culture. The one’s who are not are lagging behind.

Fortunately, India’s top portals are making a move to web2.0 culture with sites like Rediff getting into social networking in a big Way.

As of today, A lot of these Indian sites have been replaced with Web2.0 sites and blogs like Orkut , facebook, Youtube, Zapak etc…

Interesting Fact: Infosys was registered in July 92, followed by Wipro in December 92 and CIOL in September 93

i dont think so u should ranked it in this manner
some of them are shaadi sites som are mkt sites and some are socialising sites but vu didnt show how can u say these are top sites
there are google.com,apple, youtube, wikipedia, starbuck, and lots of sites available
and that are top sites nd people like them
i never listen from anybody about citibank or wipro or reliance.com is used these are company’s sites
    this is not for everyone
so my advice is for u: mention those websites those for public activity
like some music sites, video, greeting, social sites, photos, search , email, any many more activty
    mention some newly born sites
some sites those provide space for share file
i hope u will do better

  23. Akhil says

    Hi!

    Interesting start!!

I really don’t know how much you will be able to quantify and evaluate to do such a regular analysis on the site ranks!! I say this is because our inetrnet community is still adopting and emerging, out of all the users of this medium major portion is learning everyday, so the adoption odf web 2.0 is a little bit of a long shot for any analysis..

Frankly speaking ranks should be rated amongst the similar verticles having similar content, a “gaming site” cannot be compared with a “news stie” or a “travel” related portal.

  24. trakin says

    Krishna and Naina,
    Thank you for your comments.
I have given the source of it at the end of the article, however, I am sure that it is outdated. The reason for this list was not so much about ranking, but about the changing scenario. If you read the preface, I have said that what I want to see is how this ranking changes from Web1.0 sites to Web2.0 incoming years. Probably I will put up top 50 sites every 6 months and see how they fare… For me lot of new generation sites are going to replace this list !

  25. Naina says

Hi , Same questions as Krishna :-) On what basis you have ranked the sites?
When you say most accessed sites, where did you get the traffic data ? Secondly I suggest you check out cleartrip.com – to me they are the best in the travel Industry. they are so user friendly unlike the other sites that totally confuse your travel plans

  26. Krishna says

    Hi,

Your blog is very interesting. On what basis you have ranked the sites?
When you say most accessed sites, where did you get the traffic data.

I am toying with some ideas for a web 2.0 application, so doing some research on existing web 1.0 sites in the same domain.
