A bridge built to improve connectivity between two districts in Madhya Pradesh remains largely unusable three years after its completion, as the approach roads leading to it have not been built. The 308-metre structure over the Dudhi River, near Umardha village in Narmadapuram district, was constructed at a cost of \u20b98.86 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project was intended to make travel easier for residents of around 40 to 50 villages across Narmadapuram and Narsinghpur districts. But without proper roads on either side, the bridge has yet to deliver the connectivity it was meant to provide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bridge Ready, Roads Missing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nearly one kilometre of approach road remains unfinished on both sides of the bridge. Commuters are forced to travel along rough tracks through agricultural fields to reach it. During the monsoon, these makeshift routes turn muddy and waterlogged, making access difficult and, at times, impossible for vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even in dry weather, potholes and uneven surfaces make the journey inconvenient. As a result, only a few vehicles use the bridge, despite the substantial public expenditure on its construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Villagers Say Complaints Have Not Led to Action<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents say they have repeatedly raised the issue with authorities, but the missing links remain unresolved. They believe the bridge could significantly improve daily travel and transport if the approach roads were completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delay has also raised questions about how the project was planned and coordinated. Residents are asking why a bridge intended to connect communities has remained disconnected from the surrounding road network for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responsibility for the Missing Links Remains Unclear<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bridge Construction Department has reportedly sent details of the matter to the state government. A decision is still awaited on which department will take responsibility for constructing the approach roads. Officials approached for comment on the issue did not respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until the missing roads are built, the bridge\u2019s intended benefits will remain out of reach for many residents. The case highlights how infrastructure can fall short of its purpose when essential connecting works are left incomplete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bridge may be finished, but the last stretch needed to make it useful is still missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
