Pune’s long-awaited Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 is set to begin passenger services on November 4, 2026, offering commuters a new transport option between the city’s IT hub and central Pune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Hinjewadi<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The 23-kilometre elevated corridor, also known as the Pink Line or Puneri Metro, will start operations at 6 AM. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to virtually inaugurate the project on November 3, a day before the first passengers board the new metro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has developed the corridor,<\/a> with Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited implementing the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Metro Services to Run Every Six Minutes During Peak Hours<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new metro service will operate at a frequency of six minutes during peak hours and 12 minutes during other hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first train from Maan-Hinjewadi will depart at 6 AM, while the last train from the same station is scheduled for 10:30 PM. From Shivajinagar’s District Court station, the final service towards Maan will leave at 11:40 PM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The timings are expected to offer greater flexibility to employees working in Hinjewadi’s IT parks, as well as students, business travellers and residents commuting between western Pune and the city centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

17 Stations to Open in the First Phase<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of the corridor’s 23 stations, 17 will open to passengers on November 4. These include Maan, Hinjewadi Phase 1 and Phase 2, Wakad Chowk, Balewadi Stadium, Aundh, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Agricultural College and District Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The remaining six stations will open in phases as construction and safety-related work is completed. Two stations are expected to be ready by the end of November 2026, while the remaining four are scheduled for completion by January 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At seven stations, only one staircase will initially be available to passengers. The remaining ten stations opening in the first phase will have both staircases available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interchange Connectivity With Existing Metro Lines<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The District Court station will connect the new corridor with Pune Metro’s existing lines, allowing passengers to transfer to services towards Pimpri-Chinchwad, Swargate, Vanaz and Ramwadi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A joint ticketing application has also been developed for the existing metro network and Line 3, making it easier for passengers to plan journeys across different routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project Expected to Ease Traffic Congestion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u20b98,313-crore project is being developed under a public-private partnership model. It is expected to reduce dependence on road transport, particularly around Hinjewadi’s IT parks and the busy Aundh-Baner-Balewadi corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities are also working on last-mile connectivity, including access to PMPML buses, auto-rickshaws, app-based taxis and e-bikes. Parking facilities and pedestrian infrastructure are being developed around stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The opening of Line 3 marks a major milestone for Pune’s public transport network. While the initial launch will cover 17 stations, the remaining stations are expected to expand the corridor’s reach in the coming months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pune Metro Line 3 will begin passenger services on November 4, 2026, connecting Maan-Hinjewadi with Shivajinagar from 6 AM.
