It also made the direction mandatory and placed responsibility for compliance on the Railway Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move is intended to reduce the difference in access to insurance between passengers who book digitally and those who rely on physical reservation counters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How Much Insurance Coverage Can Passengers Get?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the existing optional travel insurance scheme for eligible online bookings, passengers can receive the following benefits for covered incidents, subject to policy terms and conditions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Death:<\/strong> \u20b910 lakh.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Permanent total disability:<\/strong> \u20b910 lakh.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Permanent partial disability:<\/strong> Up to \u20b97.5 lakh.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hospitalisation expenses for injuries:<\/strong> Up to \u20b92 lakh.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Transportation of mortal remains:<\/strong> Up to \u20b910,000.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These amounts represent the maximum benefits under specified categories, not an automatic payout to every passenger involved in an accident. Claims are assessed according to the applicable policy conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Will Counter Ticket Buyers Pay 45 Paise?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The existing online insurance option costs 45 paise per passenger, including taxes. However, passengers purchasing tickets at railway counters should wait for official clarification on the premium and payment process applicable to offline bookings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Supreme Court has directed the Railways to extend coverage on the same basis as online tickets, but the operational arrangements for counter purchases require implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Passengers should check the information provided at reservation counters once the facility becomes available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who Will Benefit from the New Rule?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The extension is particularly relevant for passengers who prefer purchasing tickets in person, including people in areas where internet access or digital booking facilities may be limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the existing insurance scheme has eligibility conditions. It applies to eligible Indian citizens travelling on qualifying reserved tickets, including confirmed, partly confirmed and RAC bookings.
