Internet connections and Wi-Fi services also became unavailable, creating additional difficulties for people working from home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The disruption highlighted how heavily urban households depend on uninterrupted electricity for services beyond lighting and appliances. Residents faced difficulties charging mobile phones, cooking, washing and preserving food in refrigerators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The licence would allow the private company to distribute electricity alongside the state-owned Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN), potentially giving consumers a choice of electricity suppliers once the necessary infrastructure is established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, electricity employees and their unions fear the move could affect jobs and change the state’s electricity distribution system. The Haryana government has said it will challenge the regulatory decision before the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
