Crude Oil Prices Rise Again<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Global oil prices climbed above $100 a barrel as traders assessed fresh threats to energy supplies from a storm approaching major US oil-producing areas and attacks linked to Yemen’s Houthi forces in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brent crude rose to around $101.50 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude moved above $90<\/a>. The latest increase comes after oil prices had already surged significantly over the past three months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

US Gulf Storm Threatens Oil Production<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A developing storm in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to strengthen into the first Atlantic hurricane of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The storm is heading towards an important US energy-producing region. Offshore facilities in its potential path account for around 15% of US crude production and 5% of natural gas output.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The storm could also disrupt refinery operations. As many as six refineries could be affected, and refineries across the US Gulf states account for roughly half of America’s total refining capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any prolonged shutdown could tighten supplies of crude as well as petrol and other refined fuels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saudi Arabia Faces Fresh Attacks<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, tensions have increased in the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saudi Arabia’s Jazan and Najran airports were targeted in attacks as fighting between Saudi-backed Yemeni forces and Iran-backed Houthi fighters escalated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attacks have raised concerns about the security of Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure and the wider flow of oil from the Gulf region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saudi Arabia is one of the world’s largest oil producers, making any threat to its production or export infrastructure particularly important for global energy markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More Middle East Oil Is Still Reaching Markets<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest price increase is happening despite signs that crude supplies from the Middle East are recovering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 12 million barrels per day of crude and approximately 2 million barrels per day of refined petroleum products have reportedly been shipped out of the region over the past week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saudi Arabia has also increased the amount of crude moving through its East-West pipeline to its Red Sea export facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This additional supply has prevented an even sharper jump in prices, but traders remain concerned that fresh attacks or infrastructure damage could quickly change the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

US Oil Inventories Also Fall<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

American crude inventories declined by around 2.09 million barrels during the week ended October 2, according to preliminary industry data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Falling inventories are another factor supporting prices because they suggest that the cushion available to absorb a sudden supply disruption could be shrinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The market is therefore watching both physical inventories and developments around major producing regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oil Could Remain Near $100<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The combination of geopolitical tensions, potential storm damage and refinery disruptions has kept the oil market extremely sensitive to fresh developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Analysts have suggested that crude prices could remain around the $100 level unless there is a meaningful reduction in geopolitical tensions or a clear improvement in supply conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For consumers, sustained high crude prices could eventually translate into pressure on petrol, diesel, aviation fuel and other petroleum products, depending on how long the supply risks persist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
