Up To One-Third Of Workforce Could Become Specialists<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nInfosys has more than 320,000 employees globally. If the reported plan is implemented at that scale, between roughly 80,000 and 107,000 employees could eventually move into specialist positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The reported plans were discussed during Infosys’ three-day Americas Confluence in Washington, DC, where the company’s management met partners, advisers and analysts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company has not publicly confirmed that exactly one-third of its workforce will be moved into specialist roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AI And Advanced Engineering At The Centre<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nThe specialist roles are expected to cover areas such as AI, advanced engineering, data and industry-specific expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Infosys is also developing a skills framework and assessment process to help employees transition into specialised career paths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company’s recently introduced Y-shaped career model provides employees with two broad pathways. One focuses on AI-enabled generalist and leadership roles, while the other focuses on deep engineering, technology and domain expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This approach is designed to allow employees to progress professionally without necessarily moving into traditional people-management positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
6,000 Frontier Engineers Planned<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nAlongside the broader workforce transformation, Infosys is planning to build a team of around 6,000 frontier engineers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These employees will focus on emerging technologies and advanced engineering capabilities required for AI-first services and complex technology programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Infosys is also recruiting specialised talent from leading Indian institutes and US universities, reportedly competing with AI labs and technology companies for highly skilled engineers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
270,000 Employees Already Trained In AI<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nInfosys has already been expanding its AI training programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Company presentations have indicated that around 270,000 employees had received AI training, while approximately 80,000 employees were working with coding tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company has also created specialised internal AI categories, including AI builders and AI masters, as part of its broader effort to prepare employees for AI-led delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AI Is Changing The IT Jobs Model<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nThe workforce transition reflects a broader shift across the technology services industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For years, large IT companies relied heavily on large delivery teams and traditional software engineering roles. AI automation is changing that model, increasing demand for professionals who can design AI systems, deploy them for enterprise clients and combine technical skills with industry expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New roles are emerging around AI agents, AI platforms, advanced engineering and enterprise AI implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
