Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to offer airlines a major financial incentive to launch international services from the newly operational airport. Aviation tariff regulator AERA has approved a revised incentive plan under which airlines operating new international routes from Navi Mumbai will get a complete waiver on aircraft landing charges during the first year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move is aimed at encouraging airlines to introduce more international flights and build stronger global connectivity from the new airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International Landing Charges Waived For One Year<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the revised Variable Tariff Plan, airlines launching international passenger routes<\/a> from Navi Mumbai International Airport will not have to pay landing charges during the first year of operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incentive applies to both short-haul and long-haul international routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Short-haul routes are those covering distances of up to 5,000 kilometres, while routes beyond 5,000 kilometres are classified as long-haul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The landing charge concession will continue beyond the first year, although at reduced levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discounts Continue In The Second And Third Years<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For short-haul international routes, airlines will receive a 50% discount on landing charges during the second year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For long-haul routes, the discount will be 50% in the second year and 25% in the third year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The revised structure is intended to give airlines a financial incentive not only to launch routes but also to sustain them over a longer period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More Benefits For Additional Flights<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airlines increasing the frequency of existing international services from Navi Mumbai will also receive incentives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additional international frequencies will receive a 50% discount for short-haul services and a 75% discount for long-haul services during the first year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International cargo operators will receive an even larger incentive. Freighter services will get a 90% waiver on landing charges in the first year, followed by a 50% discount in the second year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Existing Mumbai Routes Can Also Qualify<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the biggest changes is the revision of the eligibility criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, an international route had to be new to the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region to qualify for the incentive. This meant that if a particular destination was already served from Mumbai airport, an airline launching the same destination from Navi Mumbai could not qualify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The revised rules change this approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, a route can qualify as a new international route if it is being introduced from Navi Mumbai, even when the same destination is already connected to Mumbai airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Navi Mumbai Airport Needs More International Flights<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Navi Mumbai International Airport began commercial operations in December 2025, while international services started in July 2026 with an Air India Express flight to Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airport has been seeking to expand international connectivity, but airlines have faced higher operating costs and other challenges when considering new international services from a newly operational airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
