Telangana Legislative Assembly<\/a> on September 11, highlighting teacher recruitment and staffing as key parts of the government’s efforts to improve the quality of education.<\/p>\n\n\n\nOver 10,000 Teachers Recruited<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nThe Chief Minister said that filling teacher vacancies was made a priority after his government took office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Reddy, the government issued notifications for around 11,000 teacher vacancies<\/strong> and completed the recruitment of 10,006 teachers within 55 days<\/strong>, from notification to recruitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\nHe said appointment letters were subsequently handed over to the newly recruited teachers at Hyderabad’s LB Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government has presented the recruitment drive as an important step towards ensuring that schools have adequate teaching staff and reducing vacancies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nearly 29 Lakh Students in Government Institutions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nReddy also provided an overview of Telangana’s government education system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The state has 28,163 government educational institutions<\/strong>, catering to approximately 28.77 lakh students<\/strong> and employing around 1.57 lakh teaching and non-teaching personnel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\nGovernment schools account for the largest share, with 24,966 schools serving nearly 19.8 lakh students and employing 1,20,455 teachers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThe system also includes government intermediate and degree colleges, polytechnic institutions and residential schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Government Says Focus Is on Quality Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nThe Chief Minister linked the improved teacher availability to the broader objective of transforming Telangana’s education system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has previously urged teachers to cooperate with the government’s education reforms and said the state wants to develop its education system as a model for the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government has also been working on a new education policy, with an emphasis on skills, innovation and improving opportunities for students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
RTE Ratio and Actual Staffing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nThe RTE framework provides prescribed pupil-teacher ratios for schools, while Telangana’s reported overall ratio of 1:17 indicates substantially more teachers per student than the commonly cited 1:30 benchmark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The figures, however, represent the overall ratio cited by the Chief Minister. Staffing requirements and prescribed ratios can vary depending on the stage of schooling and applicable norms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recent national education data also shows Telangana maintaining relatively low pupil-teacher ratios across different school stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Push to Strengthen Government Schools<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nThe state government has also pointed to rising enrolments in government schools as an indication of improving confidence in the public education system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reddy said more than 80,000 additional students<\/strong> had enrolled in government schools over the past two years, attributing the increase partly to the efforts of teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThe next challenge will be ensuring that better staffing translates into stronger learning outcomes, infrastructure and skill development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
