Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), owned by Tata Motors, is planning to cut around 4,000 jobs over the next two years<\/strong> as the luxury carmaker steps up efforts to reduce costs and improve profitability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The proposed workforce reduction is expected to primarily affect JLR’s UK operations, where the company employs around 34,000 people. The move comes as the automaker faces weaker demand, falling profits, higher operating costs and trade-related pressures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00a31.7 Billion Savings Target<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n JLR is targeting approximately \u00a31.7 billion in savings over the next two years<\/strong>. The company also wants to lower its break-even point to around 300,000 vehicles<\/strong>, reducing the number of cars it needs to sell to cover its costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The restructuring is intended to simplify the organisation, improve efficiency and make the business more resilient as the global automotive industry undergoes rapid changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Profits Come Under Pressure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n JLR’s financial performance has added urgency to the cost-cutting programme. Revenue fell by nearly 10% in the quarter ended June 2026<\/strong>, while pre-tax profit dropped by more than two-thirds to \u00a3109 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The company is therefore under pressure to improve its financial performance while continuing to invest in new products and technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n US Tariffs Add to Challenges<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n JLR is also facing pressure from US trade measures. A 10% tariff on cars imported from the UK into the United States<\/strong> has affected the company, with North America accounting for around 29% of its global sales<\/strong> and representing its largest regional market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The company has also had to deal with the impact of a major cyberattack last year that disrupted its global operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Voluntary Redundancy Programme<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n JLR is opening a voluntary redundancy programme for salaried and management employees.
