The cuts are expected to focus significantly on management and organisational complexity<\/a>. Uber plans to reduce the number of employees sitting seven or more reporting layers below the CEO by 20%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also intends to nearly halve the number of so-called \u201cmicro-teams\u201d \u2014 teams consisting of only one or two employees reporting to a manager. Some teams will be combined, while resources will be concentrated around key operational hubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The objective is not simply to reduce headcount. Uber wants a flatter organisation in which employees have clearer responsibilities and decisions can be made faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the biggest reasons behind the restructuring is the rise of autonomous vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Companies such as Waymo and Tesla are investing heavily in driverless transportation, creating a potential challenge to Uber’s traditional model of connecting passengers with human drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uber is responding by positioning itself as a marketplace for autonomous rides rather than treating robotaxis purely as a threat. The company plans to invest more than $10 billion in autonomous vehicle technology and partnerships over the coming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
