Five Times Higher Penalty For Critical Rides<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the new rules, drivers who cancel a ride after accepting a booking will generally have to pay a penalty of 10% of the total fare<\/a><\/strong>, subject to a maximum of \u20b9100<\/strong>. The penalty amount will be credited directly to the passenger’s account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, if the cancelled trip is headed to an airport, railway station or hospital<\/strong>, the penalty increases fivefold<\/strong>, requiring the driver to pay 50% of the total fare<\/strong> to the passenger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government believes these destinations require greater reliability because delays can result in missed flights, trains or medical emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Late Arrival Also Treated As Cancellation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new policy also introduces stricter accountability for drivers who arrive late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If a driver fails to reach the designated pickup location within 10 minutes<\/strong> of the expected arrival time, it will be treated as a driver-initiated cancellation, attracting a \u20b9100 penalty<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This provision is expected to discourage unnecessary delays after accepting ride requests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers Also Face Cancellation Charges<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The revised rules are not limited to drivers. Passengers who cancel a ride without a valid reason<\/strong> after a driver has been assigned will also have to pay a penalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Customers will be charged 5% of the total fare<\/strong>, capped at \u20b9100<\/strong>, and the amount will be credited directly to the driver’s account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Responsibilities For Aggregator Platforms<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cab aggregators will also have to introduce technology-based features to minimise cancellations for essential journeys to airports, hospitals and railway stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rules further require companies to provide an alternative vehicle if a cab breaks down during a trip. For rides within municipal limits, a replacement vehicle must be arranged within 30 minutes<\/strong>, while for intercity journeys exceeding 100 kilometres<\/strong>, another cab must be provided within 60 minutes<\/strong> without charging passengers more than the originally agreed fare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new regulations come in response to frequent complaints about ride cancellations, fare negotiations and unreliable service.
