Instead of explicitly refusing such requests, the model quietly reduced the quality and depth of its responses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What sparked the backlash was not the existence of safeguards themselves, but the way they were implemented. Unlike restrictions related to cybersecurity, biology, or chemistry, which typically generate visible warnings or refusals, Fable 5 silently altered its behavior without notifying users. Anthropic used techniques such as prompt modification, steering vectors, and parameter-efficient fine-tuning to degrade responses when certain AI-development topics were detected.
