More than 45,000 vehicles entered Dehradun over a two-day period as heavy weekend tourist traffic moved toward hill destinations including Mussoorie, Chakrata, and Rishikesh. Police officials said the sharp increase in vehicle movement created significant congestion across major routes leading into Uttarakhand\u2019s popular tourist regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to police data, nearly 13,500 buses and tempo travellers, 26,000 cars, and around 5,700 motorcycles entered the district during Saturday and Sunday. A large share of the traffic was directed toward Mussoorie, which alone recorded thousands of incoming vehicles over the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mussoorie Witnesses Heavy Tourist Inflow<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Officials said Mussoorie remained one of the most crowded destinations during the weekend rush. Data showed around 2,870 cars, 59 buses and tempo travellers, and nearly 1,700 two-wheelers moved toward the hill station over the two days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tourist inflow resulted in heavy congestion across roads connecting Dehradun and Mussoorie, especially along the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway and Premnagar Highway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities Implement Traffic Diversion Plans<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In response to the rising traffic pressure, police authorities divided major routes into four super zones, 10 zones, and 19 sectors for traffic management. Senior officers supervised each zone while local police teams managed vehicle movement on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials also introduced a multi-layer traffic diversion strategy that included separate entry and exit routes and use of the alternate Kimadi route for Mussoorie-bound vehicles to prevent gridlocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mobile Teams And Live Traffic Monitoring Deployed<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Police deployed 12 mobile teams across key traffic routes while personnel from traffic departments, local police stations, and prosecution units assisted in crowd and vehicle management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities also provided live diversion updates through Google Maps and used cranes to remove vehicles parked in restricted zones. Barricades and traffic cones were installed at major intersections to control congestion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tourism Rush Continues Despite Fuel Conservation Push<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The heavy tourist movement comes even as governments across India have encouraged fuel conservation measures amid rising fuel prices and global energy concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recent reports indicated that despite Uttarakhand\u2019s \u201cNo Vehicle Day\u201d initiative and broader calls to reduce fuel consumption, tourist traffic toward hill stations has remained strong during weekends and holiday periods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hill Tourism Demand Remains Strong<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Mussoorie, Rishikesh, and Chakrata continue to witness high tourist demand during the summer travel season as visitors from Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh head toward Uttarakhand\u2019s hill regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Industry observers said improved road connectivity, including developments linked to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, has also contributed to rising tourist inflows into the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
