The Central government has approved India\u2019s first semi-high-speed regional rail corridor between Delhi and Meerut under the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). The project aims to improve high-speed regional connectivity across the National Capital Region (NCR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"India's<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor is being developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) and is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the two cities. The semi-high-speed rail system will operate at a design speed of 180 kmph, with operational speeds reaching up to 160 kmph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delhi-Meerut Travel Time To Reduce Sharply<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

According to project details, the rail corridor will reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut<\/a> to less than one hour. The total length of the corridor is approximately 82 kilometres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The corridor includes multiple stations across Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut, aimed at supporting daily commuters travelling between residential and commercial hubs in the NCR region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India\u2019s First Regional Rapid Transit System<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Delhi-Meerut project is India\u2019s first Regional Rapid Transit System corridor. The RRTS network is planned as a high-speed commuter rail system designed to connect major NCR cities through dedicated semi-high-speed rail infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike conventional metro systems, RRTS trains are designed for longer intercity travel with higher operational speeds, fewer stops, and larger passenger capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project Cost And Infrastructure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Reports said the estimated project cost exceeds \u20b930,000 crore. The corridor includes elevated, underground, and at-grade sections along with dedicated depots and advanced signalling systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trains are being equipped with modern passenger amenities including Wi-Fi, charging points, luggage space, and business-class coaches. The system will also integrate with existing metro and railway networks in NCR cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Priority Corridor Already Operational<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A priority section between Sahibabad and Modi Nagar North has already become operational in phases. Commercial services have started on completed sections while construction continues on the remaining portions of the corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials stated that the full corridor is expected to become operational in stages over the coming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More RRTS Corridors Planned<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Delhi-Meerut corridor is part of a broader NCR regional mobility plan. Additional proposed RRTS corridors include Delhi-Alwar and Delhi-Panipat routes aimed at improving regional connectivity and reducing traffic congestion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government said high-speed regional rail connectivity could support economic activity, reduce road traffic pressure, and improve urban mobility across rapidly growing NCR cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
