Millions of EPS-95 pensioners across India may soon receive relief as the government is reportedly considering an increase in the minimum monthly pension under the Employees\u2019 Pension Scheme (EPS). The proposal, currently under review by the Labour Ministry and EPFO, could raise the minimum pension from the existing \u20b91,000 to anywhere between \u20b91,500 and \u20b93,000 \u2014 with some employee groups demanding even higher amounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who Is Eligible For EPS Pension?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To receive EPS pension benefits, an employee must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Be an EPFO member<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Complete at least 10 years of service<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Reach the age of 58 years for full pension eligibility<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Employees can also opt for early pension after age 50, although the amount gets reduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The pension is calculated using this formula:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Monthly Pension = (Pensionable Salary \u00d7 Pensionable Service) \u00f7 70<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For employees retiring after September 2014, pensionable salary is based on the average basic salary and DA of the last 60 months, with the current salary ceiling capped at \u20b915,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Who Could Benefit The Most?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    According to multiple reports, the biggest impact of a pension hike to \u20b93,000 would likely be seen among employees:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Earning between \u20b910,000 and \u20b914,000<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Having around 10\u201314 years of service<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Currently receiving pensions below \u20b93,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
