Against Charges<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The findings come from a large-scale LocalCircles survey:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>75% of users oppose any charges<\/strong> and say they would quit UPI<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only <strong>25% are willing to pay<\/strong> for transactions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No clear preference among users on how fees should be structured (fixed, percentage, or hybrid)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The results underline how deeply the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.business-standard.com\/industry\/news\/upi-users-resist-fees-75-say-they-will-quit-if-charged-report-126041100551_1.html\"><strong>\u201cfree payments\u201d model is embedded in user behavior<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Users Are So Sensitive to Fees<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>UPI is used heavily for <strong>small, frequent transactions<\/strong>, making even tiny charges impactful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Users rely on UPI for daily payments like groceries, bills, and small purchases<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Even a small fee could create friction in a <strong>high-volume, low-value ecosystem<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experts warn that charges may push users back toward <strong>cash transactions<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, UPI\u2019s success is tightly linked to its <strong>zero-cost convenience<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">UPI\u2019s Massive Scale Today<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The resistance comes despite UPI\u2019s explosive growth:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Over <strong>240 billion transactions in FY26<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Total transaction value exceeding <strong>\u20b9314 trillion<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>UPI has become the <strong>backbone of India\u2019s digital economy<\/strong>, used by millions daily across urban and rural areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Core Problem: No Revenue Model<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While users want UPI to remain free, banks and payment companies face a challenge:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No <strong>Merchant Discount Rate (MDR)<\/strong> means <strong>no direct revenue<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Infrastructure and operational costs are rising<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial institutions are pushing for a <strong>sustainable model<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This creates a tension between <strong>user expectations and ecosystem sustainability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator
