Authorities have noticed panic booking and hoarding behavior in some regions after reports of disruptions in energy supply chains. Impact of the West Asia Conflict<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The conflict in West Asia has affected global energy supply routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz<\/strong>, which is a critical corridor for India\u2019s oil and gas imports. A significant portion of India\u2019s LPG, crude oil, and liquefied natural gas shipments typically pass through this route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India imports nearly 60% of its LPG requirements<\/strong>, and about 90% of those imports usually pass through the Strait of Hormuz<\/strong>. The disruption has forced the government to quickly look for alternative supply routes and sources to maintain energy security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Measures Taken to Boost Domestic Supply<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To manage the situation, the government has increased domestic LPG production by about 25%<\/strong> by adjusting refinery operations and diverting fuel streams toward cooking gas production. Officials have also secured additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from alternative suppliers to offset shortages caused by the disrupted maritime route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oil refineries across the country are operating at full capacity to ensure that household LPG demand is met. The government has also prioritized domestic cooking needs over commercial usage to avoid shortages in households.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prioritizing Household Consumers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

With around 33 crore households relying on LPG for cooking<\/strong>, the government has directed oil marketing companies to ensure that household consumers receive priority access to supplies. Industrial and commercial sectors may face temporary restrictions to ensure domestic needs remain unaffected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities have also advised state governments to take strict action against hoarding and black marketing of LPG cylinders. Monitoring mechanisms are being strengthened to maintain fair distribution and prevent artificial shortages in the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Government Monitoring the Situation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Officials have emphasized that the government is continuously monitoring developments in West Asia and coordinating with multiple agencies to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply. Alternative crude sources have been secured and energy procurement routes are being diversified to reduce dependence on any single region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government has reiterated that households should not rush to book cylinders unnecessarily, as the existing delivery cycle and supply levels remain stable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
