On Tuesday, the Maharashtra cabinet cleared a new policy for acquiring and allocating land to support development in the proposed \u201cThird Mumbai\u201d area near the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, widely known as Atal Setu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed reporters that 200 square kilometres of land have been transferred to the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) for developing this new zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maharashtra Cabinet Clears Land Policy for \u2018Third Mumbai\u2019, 200 Sq Km Handed to MMRDA<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

An official statement clarified that the new policy will apply to regions governed by the newly formed New Town Development Authority, as well as to future projects that will be carried out by the MMRDA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The objective of the policy is to ensure structured and well-planned growth in the areas influenced by the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision is expected to create a defined system for land acquisition and distribution, which should help speed up infrastructure and urban development projects in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Atal Setu sea bridge, connecting Sewri in Mumbai with Nhava Sheva in Navi Mumbai, is considered a major infrastructure initiative that is likely to ease congestion in Mumbai and encourage more balanced regional development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In another key decision, the cabinet sanctioned a long-term loan of \u20b915,000 crore from NABARD to complete pending water resource projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These irrigation-related projects are expected to benefit nearly 8 lakh hectares of farmland across Maharashtra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cabinet also approved the allocation of 12.76 hectares of government land in Vikaswadi, located in Karveer taluka of Kolhapur district, for the construction of an international-standard cricket stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To accelerate progress on the Purandar airport project in Pune district, the cabinet approved the creation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also sanctioned a loan of \u20b96,000 crore to cover land acquisition and related development work for the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The repayment of this loan will be shared by state agencies such as MIDC, MADC, and CIDCO, in proportion to their respective shareholdings, with the Maharashtra government offering its approval and guarantee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Minister Fadnavis stated that 96 per cent of the farmers involved have already given their consent for the Purandar airport project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cabinet gave the green light to launch the \u2018Majha Gaav, Arogya Sampanna Gaav\u2019 campaign, which aims to improve health standards at the village level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This health initiative will run from April 1 through March 31, 2027, and has been allocated an annual budget of \u20b980.75 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the campaign, gram panchayats up to the district council level will be eligible for awards ranging from \u20b95 lakh to \u20b92 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cabinet approved the transfer of 1,000 acres of land at Ratnapuri Mala in Indapur taluka of Pune district to MIDC for establishing a new industrial estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Mumbai, a joint development plan on MHADA land at Kolekalyan in Andheri was approved to build tennis infrastructure through the MahaTennis Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cabinet also approved the Maharashtra Public-Private Partnership Policy 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maharashtra PPP Policy 2026: Projects Above \u20b925 Crore to Need Cabinet Infrastructure Committee Approval<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Under this new PPP policy, all projects valued at more than \u20b925 crore will require clearance from the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee, which is chaired by the chief minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amendments to the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966, were approved to permit legal notices to be served through email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To strengthen administration in light of growing population and expanding geographical areas, the cabinet sanctioned the creation of 11 new posts for additional district collectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also approved the allocation of 117.19 hectares of land at Mouza Linga in Kalmeshwar taluka of Nagpur district to MIDC for setting up a coal-to-chemical project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A budget of \u20b975.13 crore was sanctioned for developing sports infrastructure at Katphal under the Baramati District Sports Complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The planned facilities at Katphal include a pavilion, swimming pool, skating rink, archery range, and basketball court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, the cabinet approved an ordinance aimed at settling outstanding dues related to tax, interest, penalties, and late fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
