Uttar Pradesh has recorded remarkable growth in its National Highway network over the past decade, expanding by 34 percent and crossing the 10,700-km mark, as highlighted on Uttar Pradesh Diwas. Data from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways shows that projects worth \u20b92.16 lakh crore have been sanctioned since 2014, with \u20b91.32 lakh crore already spent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 262 National Highway projects covering 8,211 km have been approved, including 106 NHAI-led projects<\/a> spanning 4,769 km at a cost of \u20b91.51 lakh crore, and 156 State PWD projects covering 3,442 km at \u20b964,091 crores. As of 2025, Uttar Pradesh\u2019s National Highway network stands at 10,718 km, with 6,479 km maintained by NHAI and 4,239 km by the PWD. Since 2014, 2,732 km of new highway length has been added, reflecting sustained expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uttar Pradesh Boosts Highways, Expressways, and Connectivity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Construction across the state remains intense, with 114 ongoing projects spanning 4,311 km and costing \u20b91.03 lakh crore. NHAI is executing 64 of these projects over 3,181 km at a cost of \u20b975,315 crores, while the State PWD is handling 50 projects covering 1,130 km at \u20b928,118 crores. The Ministry has reported substantial progress in completed work as well\u2014106 National Highway projects totalling 4,145 km have been completed since 2019 at an overall cost of \u20b981,072 crores. For the financial year 2025\u201326, Uttar Pradesh aims to award 850 km of new projects and complete 646 km. As of November 2025, projects covering 110 km have been awarded and construction of 286 km has been completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funding support under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund has been strong, with Uttar Pradesh receiving \u20b911,680 crores in total sanctions and \u20b98,560.84 crore released so far. Under the Setu Bandhan Programme, 14 road overbridges costing \u20b9932 crores have been approved, while 34 CRIF projects covering 241 km have been sanctioned in the past three years. Uttar Pradesh is also emerging as a hub for greenfield expressways and access-controlled corridors, with projects worth \u20b917,291 crores\u2014including the Lucknow\u2013Kanpur Expressway, Kanpur Ring Road, Varanasi\u2013Ranchi\u2013Kolkata Expressway and Allahabad Bypass\u2014progressing rapidly. State officials view this expanding highway network as a key catalyst for economic growth, enhanced connectivity and faster movement of goods and people across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
