{"id":1303656,"date":"2025-12-14T09:16:38","date_gmt":"2025-12-14T03:46:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/?p=1303656"},"modified":"2025-12-14T09:17:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-14T03:47:09","slug":"bengaluru-metro-deployes-driver-less-metro-prototype-how-it-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/bengaluru-metro-deployes-driver-less-metro-prototype-how-it-works\/","title":{"rendered":"Bengaluru Metro Deployes Driver-Less Metro Prototype: How It Works?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>BEML Ltd has unveiled a prototype of a new, advanced driverless Metro trainset known as 5RS-DM, which is being developed for the upcoming Phase 2, 2A, and 2B corridors of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"573\" src=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Screenshot-2025-12-14-at-9.15.14-AM-1024x573.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1303672\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Screenshot-2025-12-14-at-9.15.14-AM-1024x573.png 1024w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Screenshot-2025-12-14-at-9.15.14-AM-300x168.png 300w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Screenshot-2025-12-14-at-9.15.14-AM-768x430.png 768w, https:\/\/trak.in\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Screenshot-2025-12-14-at-9.15.14-AM.png 1486w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BEML Unveils Prototype of Advanced Driverless Metro Train for Bengaluru Metro Phase 2 Corridors<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The trainset features modern and contemporary interiors aimed at improving passenger comfort, along with energy-efficient systems and upgraded passenger information displays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It includes extra-wide gangways that allow easier movement between coaches, USB charging ports for passengers, ergonomic seating, and improved accessibility provisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Safety has been prioritized through advanced fire safety systems, enhanced crashworthiness, and compliance with international safety standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trainset is compatible with CBTC (Communication-Based Train Control), enabling fully driverless operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prototype intended for the Pink Line was formally rolled out by BMRCL Managing Director J. Ravishankar at the BEML Rail Complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rollout event was attended by Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML Ltd, along with senior leadership from both BEML and BMRCL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the event, officials observed a test run of the new driverless Metro train at the BEML Rail Complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to BEML, \u201cUnder the contract, BEML will supply 318 standard gauge Metro cars, designed, engineered and manufactured at its Bengaluru facility for the Blue Line (airport line) and Pink Line.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Driverless Metro Trainsets to Undergo Extensive Testing and Commissioning as per BMRCL Timeline<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The same statement added that the trainsets will go through an extensive testing and commissioning process aligned with BMRCL\u2019s implementation schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After commissioning, BEML will also provide comprehensive maintenance support for these trainsets for a period of up to 15 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BEML recently received an additional order worth Rs 414 crore from BMRCL as part of a top-up contract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under this new order, BEML will supply six more driverless Metro trainsets, amounting to 36 cars, for the Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase 2, specifically Reach 5 on the Yellow Line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In March 2025, BEML secured another additional order valued at Rs 405 crore for 42 extra Metro cars for Reach 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result of these additional orders, the total supply commitment has increased from 53 trainsets (318 cars) to 66 trainsets (396 cars).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newindianexpress.com\/states\/karnataka\/2025\/Dec\/12\/driverless-train-prototype-for-metro-pink-line-rolled-out-in-bengaluru\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BEML Ltd has unveiled a prototype of a new, advanced driverless Metro trainset known as 5RS-DM, which is being developed for the upcoming Phase 2, 2A, and 2B corridors of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL).
