The upgraded <strong>Version 4.0<\/strong> meets the <strong>SIL-4 (Safety Integrity Level-4)<\/strong> standard, the highest global benchmark for railway safety systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Approved by <strong>RDSO<\/strong> on July 16, 2024, Kavach 4.0 now incorporates major technological upgrades. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Higher location accuracy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved signal aspect information in large yards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Station-to-station Kavach interface over Optical Fibre Cable (OFC)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Direct interface with existing electronic interlocking systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These enhancements make the system suitable for large-scale deployment across India\u2019s complex and high-density rail network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Latest Deployment Update from Government<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on December 5, Railway Minister <strong>Ashwini Vaishnaw<\/strong> confirmed that Kavach 4.0 has already been commissioned over <strong>738 route kilometres<\/strong> on key sections. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Palwal\u2013Mathura\u2013Nagda (633 RKm)<\/strong> on the Delhi\u2013Mumbai route<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Howrah\u2013Bardhaman (105 RKm)<\/strong> on the Delhi\u2013Howrah route<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>He further stated that implementation is actively underway on the remaining sections of these two high-density corridors, which collectively handle the highest passenger and freight volumes in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Massive Expansion Planned Across High-Density Routes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond these pilot sections, track-side Kavach implementation has already been taken up on <strong>15,512 route kilometres<\/strong>, covering:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Golden Quadrilateral<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Golden Diagonal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High Density Networks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other priority sections across Indian Railways<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To support this expansion, bids have also been floated to equip <strong>an additional 9,069 locomotives<\/strong> with Kavach 4.0. The system is being deployed in locomotives in a phased and progressive manner to ensure operational continuity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Kavach 4.0 Is a Strategic Shift<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The deployment of Kavach 4.0 represents a structural shift from manual risk control to technology-driven safety enforcement. With increasing train speeds, higher traffic density, and complex junction operations, reliance on human vigilance alone is no longer sufficient. Kavach enables real-time automatic intervention, making it a critical backbone for future semi-high-speed and high-speed rail projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Road Ahead for Rail Safety<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once fully implemented on the Delhi\u2013Mumbai and Delhi\u2013Howrah corridors, Kavach 4.0 is expected to significantly cut down collisions, signal lapses, and overspeeding incidents.
