Today, it is cancelling hundreds of flights daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Network in Freefall<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The meltdown intensified on December 5, when IndiGo <strong>cancelled all flights out of Delhi\u2019s IGI Airport till midnight<\/strong> due to inadequate pilot rosters under the new FDTL (Flight Duty Time Limitation) norms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other metros were no better:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bengaluru:<\/strong> 102 flights cancelled<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Multiple airports:<\/strong> Mass delays and passenger stranding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nationwide:<\/strong> Over 1,000 cancellations in three days<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The airline estimates around <strong>500 cancellations on December 2\u20133 alone<\/strong>, a staggering figure for an airline that flies three out of every five flights in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>IndiGo Blames FDTL Norms; Government Calls for Accountability<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>IndiGo has told the DGCA it needs time till <strong>February 10, 2026<\/strong> to fully restore operations and has sought relief from night-duty restrictions for pilots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a public apology, IndiGo said it is working with the aviation ministry, DGCA, BCAS, AAI and airports to stabilise operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But regulators aren\u2019t letting the airline off easily. The government has constituted a <strong>four-member DGCA inquiry panel<\/strong> to examine:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Why IndiGo failed to prepare for revised duty rules<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whether rostering mismanagement triggered the crisis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accountability of the airline\u2019s senior leadership<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For India\u2019s aviation sector, this raises uncomfortable questions:<br><strong>How can the country\u2019s largest airline collapse overnight despite years of preparation time?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Passengers and Investors Pay the Price<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The cascading crisis has stranded lakhs of fliers, triggered nationwide delays and shaken investor confidence.
