advocates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" collapsed this week, with <em>zero departures<\/em> from Delhi on Friday and <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/india\/indigo-chaos-forces-govt-to-withdraw-safety-rule\/articleshow\/125798220.cms\">severe cancellations in major metros.<\/a><br>To limit chaos, the airline has offered <strong>full waiver<\/strong> on cancellations and rescheduling from December 5\u201315.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the shockwaves hit markets too\u2014IndiGo\u2019s parent InterGlobe Aviation lost <strong>\u20b920,000 crore in market value<\/strong> in just a week, even as competitor SpiceJet gained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airline admitted its network collapse \u201cshook customer confidence\u201d, while promising a return to stability between <strong>December 10\u201315<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Government Intervention: Passenger Relief vs. Pilot Fatigue<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>IndiGo sought exemptions from Phase II of FDTL norms\u2014especially restrictions on night landings\u2014claiming it needed time till <strong>February 2026<\/strong> to stabilise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government responded by <strong>suspending the norms temporarily<\/strong>, saying it was acting \u201csolely in the interest of passengers\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A four-member DGCA committee will now probe the circumstances behind the collapse and examine whether IndiGo failed to prepare despite a two-year transition period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To assist recovery, DGCA even offered its <strong>own Airbus A320-rated flight inspectors<\/strong> to operate IndiGo flights\u2014an unprecedented step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pilot Community Slams Decision as \u201cA Safety Rollback\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Indian pilot community has reacted fiercely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Airline Pilots\u2019 Association of India (ALPA) called the exemption <strong>\u201ca serious compromise of fatigue protections\u201d<\/strong>, accusing regulators of creating a double standard to benefit one airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key objections include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Longer allowed duty hours<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Relaxed definition of night flying<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Doubling of permissible near-night landings<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reduced rest periods<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>ALPA argues these decisions <strong>violate scientific fatigue-management principles<\/strong>, undermine ICAO norms, and put \u201cmillions of passengers at higher risk\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The union also questioned why disruptions exploded <strong>35 days after<\/strong> the new norms began\u2014suggesting an \u201cengineered crisis\u201d to force a rollback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is under enormous strain.<br>The government insists there will be <strong>no compromise on safety<\/strong>, but pilot unions warn fatigue-related risks could rise sharply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether the temporary rollback stabilises operations\u2014or deepens mistrust between pilots, airlines, and regulators\u2014will decide the trajectory of India\u2019s aviation safety culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a
