Because of <strong>Kali Puja and Chhath<\/strong>, government staff will get <strong>over 10 days of leave<\/strong>, creating back-to-back long weekends and extended festival breaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Some Festival Holidays Lost to Sundays<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>However, not all holidays become extra days off. In 2026, <strong>six major festivals fall on a Sunday<\/strong>, eliminating additional leave for those dates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shivaratri \u2013 Feb 15<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Durga Puja Saptami \u2013 Oct 18<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lakshmi Puja \u2013 Oct 25<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kali Puja \u2013 Nov 8<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chhath Puja \u2013 Nov 15<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Birsa Munda Jayanti \u2013 Nov 15<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite this, the overall holiday count remains one of the highest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Total Holiday Count Crosses 150 Days<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For 2026, the breakdown of non-working days is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>27 holidays<\/strong> under the Negotiable Instruments Act<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>26 state-declared holidays<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>52 Saturdays + 52 Sundays<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This brings the total to <strong>157+ non-working days<\/strong>, offering employees more than four months of time off when combined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, Santhali employees will receive a holiday on <strong>Hul Dibas<\/strong> (June 30).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Generous Calendar for Work-Life Balance<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With nearly one-third of the year made up of holidays and weekends, West Bengal\u2019s 2026 holiday calendar stands out for its cultural inclusivity and emphasis on work-life balance.
