The Uttar Pradesh government has once again clarified that Aadhaar cannot<\/strong> be used as proof of date of birth for any official purpose. This follows repeated misuse of Aadhaar as a birth document in schools, colleges, and administrative offices across the state, despite clear instructions from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Aadhaar Cannot Be Used as Birth Proof<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The UIDAI\u2019s Lucknow regional office formally notified the state government that Aadhaar is not<\/em> a valid document for verifying birth dates.
Aadhaar data was created using three categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Approximate birth dates<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Self-declared dates without documentation<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Document-backed dates<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    For approximate dates, UIDAI often defaulted to January 1<\/strong> of the stated year, making Aadhaar unreliable for exact DOB authentication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    UIDAI also stressed that Aadhaar is only a digital identity document<\/strong>, not a nationality or age-proof certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Fresh Orders Sent to Every Department<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Amit Singh Bansal, Special Secretary of the Planning Department, issued a statewide directive instructing all departments to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Stop accepting Aadhaar as proof of birth date<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Accept only legitimate birth certificates for DOB verification<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Comply fully with UIDAI\u2019s guidelines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      The move aims to prevent misuse and ensure documentation consistency across government processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      What Documents Are Now Mandatory?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Under the amended Registration of Births and Deaths (RBD) Act, 1969<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • Birth certificates must be issued within 21 days<\/strong> of birth (free of charge)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Delayed certificates require a nominal fee<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Certificates over one year old must be issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
