It is linked to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Heart disease<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stroke<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lung cancer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Severe respiratory illnesses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduced lung development in children<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Premature death<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Major sources include vehicle emissions, coal plants, industry, biomass burning, and winter smog conditions that trap pollutants close to the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the <strong>WHO recommends just 5 \u00b5g\/m\u00b3<\/strong>, India\u2019s standard is 40 \u00b5g\/m\u00b3 \u2014 yet most districts still fail to meet even this relaxed threshold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Delhi Is Worst, But India\u2019s Pollution Is Widespread<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After Delhi, the analysis ranked:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chandigarh: 70 \u00b5g\/m\u00b3<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Haryana: 63 \u00b5g\/m\u00b3<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tripura: 62 \u00b5g\/m\u00b3<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assam: 60 \u00b5g\/m\u00b3<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bihar: 59 \u00b5g\/m\u00b3<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In total, <strong>447 out of 749 districts<\/strong> \u2014 60% \u2014 exceeded national limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some regions recorded 100% non-compliance, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Delhi<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Punjab<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Haryana<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assam<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meghalaya<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tripura<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jammu &amp; Kashmir<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>States like Bihar (37 of 38 districts) and West Bengal (22 of 23) showed near-uniformly high pollution levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>India\u2019s Pollution Problem Is Global in Scale<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Global assessments back the severity of the crisis:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>39 of the world\u2019s 50 most polluted cities (IQAir 2023) were in India<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Delhi, Begusarai, Guwahati and New Delhi ranked as the <strong>world\u2019s four most polluted cities<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India consistently ranks among the <strong>world\u2019s top three most polluted countries<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether measured through ground monitors or satellite data, the conclusion is the same: India is the global epicentre of PM2.5 pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A National Crisis Demanding Urgent Action<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The CREA report makes it clear that air pollution is not a seasonal or regional anomaly \u2014 it is a <strong>structural, nationwide public health emergency<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Experts say India now needs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stronger inter-state coordination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rapid clean energy expansion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tougher industrial enforcement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Better rural and remote monitoring systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>With India dominating global pollution rankings year after year, the latest satellite evidence adds fresh urgency to the fight for cleaner air and healthier cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Delhi has once again emerged as the most polluted region in India, according to a new satellite-based analysis released by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA).
