Only 4,573 H-1B petitions<\/strong> for new employment were approved for the top-seven Indian firms combined\u2014a massive 70% decline over the past decade<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Experts attribute this to a shift toward hiring more US-based workers, increased offshoring <\/a>capability, and rapid technological shifts that reduce the need to bring workers onsite to the US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

US Tech Companies Take Over the Top Spots<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the first time ever, the top four companies receiving the highest number of H-1B approvals for new employment were all American tech giants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the NFAP analysis of USCIS data:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Amazon<\/strong>: 4,644 approvals<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Meta<\/strong>: 1,555 approvals<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Microsoft<\/strong>: 1,394 approvals<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Google<\/strong>: 1,050 approvals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Apple followed closely behind, ranking sixth overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This signals a significant power shift in the high-skilled immigration landscape, as US tech giants intensify their hiring of global talent, even as Indian firms step back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Indian Firms Fall in Rankings<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Among Indian companies, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)<\/strong> held onto fifth place, but other major players such as LTIMindtree (20th)<\/strong> and HCL America (21st)<\/strong> barely made it into the top 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The decline also reflects the period before<\/em> the Trump administration\u2019s toughest immigration restrictions took effect\u2014including the unprecedented $100,000 fee per new H-1B employee<\/strong>, making the visa far more expensive for employers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Workers Still Switching Employers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Contrary to public belief, H-1B workers are not locked to one employer. In FY 2025 alone, over 68,000 H-1B petitions<\/strong> were approved for workers transferring to new companies\u2014a sign of growing job mobility among high-skilled visa holders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Where Most H-1Bs Are Going<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    • Texas, New York, New Jersey, and Virginia<\/strong> followed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      New York City ranked No. 1 among cities, with Arlington, Chicago, San Jose, and Santa Clara also major hubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Most new H-1B approvals came from sectors including tech, education, manufacturing, healthcare, and finance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
