In a major turn of events, the Bengaluru traffic police have identified 66 spots for building multi-level car parking facilities (MLCP) mainly in high footfall and commercial hubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Multi-level Car Parking Facilities To Tackle Parking Problem In Bengaluru <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move is mainly aimed to tackle the increasing parking problem in the city reportedly<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moving ahead, these sites are planned on metro parking plots, nearby junctions and roadside government land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to the smart MLCP, it is automated or semi-automated technology which is equipped with lifts, hydraulic platforms or robotic systems to stack vehicles vertically and horizontally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each of these systems will house 485 cars in its G+9 floor layout with seven lifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Does This Help?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the implementation of this system, they are expecting to eliminate space required for circulation ramps and driveways hence maximising capacity in a small footprint said M Maheshwar Rao, Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This would be very friendly for the vehicle owners as they simply need to leave their vehicle at an entry bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After that the automated system uses sensors and computerised tracking to store and retrieve it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This automated system will definitely reduce retrieval time and manual intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further, the Chief Commissioner said, \u201cThe city is grappling with major parking issues and this system is among the many solutions mooted.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the expenses, its estimated cost will be borne by the GBA, and the entire project will be executed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The timing of this initiative is impeccable as  the police were planning to tow away wrongly parked vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a need for a structured parking solution in the Bengaluru City as informed by the Bengaluru traffic police in a recent letter to the GBA Chief Commissioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further this letter highlighted that despite declaring 1,194 roads as \u2018no-parking\u2019 zones, lack of designated parking forces commuters to violate rules, thereby choking arterial roads.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This system is already successfully implemented in Hyderabad and now it requires immediate intervention in Bengaluru, said Karthik Reddy, Joint commissioner of police (Traffic) in a media interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
