Users can enable it through a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.republicworld.com\/tech\/whatsapp-will-soon-let-users-message-people-on-other-apps-in-europe\">dedicated <\/a>settings section that explains how cross-app messaging works. Once turned on, people can chat with contacts on approved third-party services without switching apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chats can appear in a separate inbox or be merged with regular WhatsApp conversations, depending on user preference. Initially, only one-to-one conversations will be supported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Security Remains the Core Requirement<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>WhatsApp insists that interoperability will not compromise security. Third-party apps must implement end-to-end encryption protocols that match WhatsApp\u2019s standards. Only after passing technical validation will an app be allowed to interoperate on the platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure transparency, WhatsApp will clearly label chats involving external apps, and users will receive notifications when new third-party integrations are added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Features Will Be Available at Launch<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The initial rollout will support:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Text messages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Images and videos<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Voice notes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Document and file sharing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However, WhatsApp-specific features like stickers, statuses, disappearing messages, and advanced privacy tools may not work in cross-app chats during the first phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Group messaging with third-party users will roll out later once partner apps meet the necessary technical standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who Gets Access and Which Apps Are Involved<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The DMA applies only to the European Economic Area, so the feature will be EU-exclusive for now. WhatsApp has not confirmed if interoperability will expand globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first apps to meet technical compliance are BirdyChat and Haiket, with more expected as companies update their encryption systems to align with WhatsApp\u2019s requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why This Matters<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This move is a milestone for digital regulation and user freedom. Interoperability allows people to stay on WhatsApp while messaging friends who use other apps\u2014reducing fragmentation and app-switching fatigue.
